What was the speed limit "back in the day" when VIARail was still running on the Moosehead Sub>?
I ask this question strictly as a layman, but I have occasionally wondered whether, given the rise in traffic on this line, whether the section from Leominster to Fitchburg may have been abandoned prematurely. I haven't lived in Worcester County for many years so I no longer know what recent industr...
I remember driving under that bridge while on a day-long trip through New York back in the late summer of 2005. If I recall, there were signs at the time that the roadbed was going to be turned into a rail trail. When was the line abandoned?
What a shame. I was last in Cape Breton in 1997 when it was still an active freight and passenger line.
What businesses are there that could generate sufficient revenue to get it up and running again?
What is the latest news, if any, on the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia? I know the railway has been sold, and that the provincial operating subsidy was set to expire in March, but I haven't heard or read anything lately.
I gather, from a quick and cursory reading of the document, that the CM&Q will retain its current name under CP (Soo Line) ownership. Am I incorrect?
I drove up to the roundhouse a few years ago. It's not difficult to get to, but I had to get directions. Once there, however, I found that it was fenced in and surrounded by all kinds of junk metal (I can't recall what). Apparently someone, at least at that time, was using it for storage. The buildi...
As a resident of Maine and as a lifelong railfan, I have long lamented the 1994 demise of the Atlantic Limited (later Atlantic ), the passenger train that ran between Montreal and Halifax for over a hundred years, latterly under the ownership of VIA. I rode the train several times since I moved here...
As of several years ago, the abutments of the Eastern's underpass over Old Cascade Road (old Route 9B) in Saco were still standing. Are they still there?
Are there any recent updates regarding the fate of this line? The expense of maintaining it as embargoed-but-"active" is considerable, but I would hate to see it abandoned without a great deal of forethought and foresight. It still bears potential as a key transportation link, and once it'...
As it's been quite a few years since I last traced the Eastern ROW through southern Maine, I'm curious to know where this is. Is it the bridge site on Route 35, just to the west of the I-95 Kennebunk Service Plaza? Also, why would it be filled in? I thought the entire route was kept clear for the ga...
The CMQ's Rockland Branch is leased, not owned. Since the State of Maine owns it, I would assume the State will determine who will be the succeeding operator --- an intriguing question, given the negotiations with Amtrak about running summer service on the line.
Regrettably, shepaug, I don't have the knowledge to take scans and send them, and I'm not sure it would be possible for me to do it in this case anyway --- the atlas is a very large book. I have friends who might be able to do it, however. I'll see what I can arrange.
The Clinton Tunnel was abandoned by the B&M in 1959 and the Wachusett Reservoir Viaduct was razed in 1975. Who currently owns the tunnel and the ROW from its east portal to West Berlin? Is it the property of Pan Am, Pan Am Southern, the Central Mass. Rail Trail group, or none of the above?
