Re: MBTA HSP46 & MP36 Front Dirt Problem

I did a tour of the Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility some years ago. The service & inspection tracks (the 3 going through the south end of the building), where they clean and refuel the trains, all have wash racks where the train exits. So theoretically every train gets washed once or twice a ...

The Massachusetts Architectural Access Board has much more stringent requirements than the federal ADA. It's the reason the T has been installing redundant elevators at a lot of stations. Honestly, speaking as a parent who has taken his kids to the Museum of Science via Science Park many times, cros...

The former Malden station I'm familiar with is now Pearl St Station restaurant, on Summer St just north of the current Malden Center station. Decent enough place by Malden standards (I used to work across the street).

Also, they have to reinforce and rehabilitate the viaduct from Science Park to the Gilmore Bridge as well, as right now it's in such bad shape that it's severely restricted in how many trains can be run over it and how fast. This project got pushed up a few years so they could do it at the same time...

I'm pretty sure your labels are reversed. The single-track viaduct to the right is the northbound Union Square ramp, and the double-track one to the left is the Medford branch.

It's a handsome vehicle (sure is better looking than those Type 7 hideosities), but the headlights look like two Mickey Mouse heads. And now you can't unsee that either. :-)

I still say it's a far better candidate for light rail conversion than commuter rail, unless you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money grade-separating the line through Kendall Square.

Is this for the PAR freights that will now have to use the Yard 10 lead to get to the Eastern Route, because of the GLX?

So it does, and this is a thread about the commuter rail. I'm'a shut up now.
Well, part of Porter's platform is in Somerville, if that counts!
I'm... pretty sure that's not true? If Google Maps and the Transit app are correct, the Red Line doesn't hit the Somerville border until it crosses under the int...

They're not closing the line Thanksgiving weekend, for which we can all be, er, thankful.

Then why are they looking at HSR down the I-90 corridor, which will cost a hell of a lot more?

What is laughable is the idea of the trail being an economic" engine." The same people who would use the trail are already spending money in the area. Unless they plan to put food trucks on their lawns and charge a toll for using the trail, the economic gains are nil. You'd be surprised. ...

Using the I-90 corridor is going to be seriously spendy... a cursory examination of Google Maps indicates that there is room in the ROW, but definitely not in the median, so the tracks would have to run alongside the highway. This would require rebuilding all of the exits and service plazas (or depr...

Looking at Street View, there's easily room for 2 tracks under the building. I think light rail would be an excellent use of the corridor; not only can it tie into the Green Line near BET, but it could be part of a light-rail Urban Ring that goes up through Chelsea.
