Re: WMATA Fare Gate prototypes

When they were introducing the new - and maybe soon to be replaced faregates - I was bummed they didn't go with #2 style and instead once again went with the clamshell approach. Here is hoping they get it right this time.

The Ashburn North garage is of course touted as being part of the new station, but I believe it was built by the developer of the large mixed use project that is going in north of the station. Right now there are still large surface lots but eventually those will be built on so they needed a large g...

Yea I know everyone is celebrating the shiny new thing meanwhile metro doesn't have enough railcars and the 7ks are still missing in action. Also, LC mentioned its vendor is having trouble finding bus drivers so the new routes to the stations will be serviced by vans not busses, and some routes won'...

We have what I assume is a sneak peak at the phase 2 pennant https://twitter.com/wmataGM/status/1590 ... 8sBrw&s=19

Details on the first train(s), per Adam Tuss. https://twitter.com/AdamTuss/status/158 ... puKnAWbOhg.

In short, first passenger train departs Ashburn at 1:54 on Nov. 15. First east-bound train leaves Largo at 12:51

Metro will be handing out 100 silver tickets to the first 100 riders on the initial Silver line trail. Details coming soon, per Adam Tuss. Once again, I guess I'll be missing out on the ticket and pennant flag given other obligation. https://twitter.com/AdamTuss/status/1589269623236890628?s=20&t...

So far Metro has not announced any big hoopla for the opening, but I expect there will be something more than what's so far announced - the handing out of the traditional pennants at each new station that day. I have one from Phase I's opening, so even if I cannot ride that day maybe I'll swing by A...

According to WMATA's website, it's now set for Nov. 5.

Metro has set the opening date for Tuesday November 15 I made the trek from Springfield to Whiele for opening day of phase 1 and was on the first train to carry customers. I had planned to go to opening day for phase 2 (less than 2 miles from where I now live) with my son who was too young to bring...

It's interesting to me that the approach to the station - and all of the track equipment - seems to be concrete, as opposed to ballast. Also, I am sure the models showed this, but I was surprised to see a fully covered platform, which I guess makes this station unique amongst outdoors stations.

Metro's Twitter account has posted a video (cab view) of the first test train to roll through the new station. https://twitter.com/wmata/status/158490 ... KXqtK2P4dg

Metro is saying it is ready to open the Silver line phase II for Thanksgiving 2022, but it does not have enough railcars so....guess not? https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/transportation/metro-says-silver-line-extension-ready-to-open-but-there-arent-enough-trains/3186030/ . Not quite on-topic for the thread, but I did want to add that everyone should follow the new GM on Twitter. Obviously it's PR, but even if it is just PR his constant presence in the system is a good start to his leadership (IMO).

I understand some changing as part of the natural evolution of the places where the stations reside (Largo, for example). But others are just baffling, like White Flint. Unless a station name is truly 'wrong' or has always confused patrons, it seems odd and unnecessary to rename them years and years...
