Re: MARC HHP-8

Some MARC miscellany since I was last here: I have now seen ACS-64s pushing MARC trains 3 times. Interesting. The Chargers are now fairly common on trains north of Baltimore, in fact might now be more common than the Wabtecs, but for some reason they often only run them at 110 mph. The first 'expre...

NS unit on 176 1/9/19

NS loaned Amtrak an AC44C6M (4045) to pilot 176 to DC yesterday after the P42 broke down. I would hazard that 171 might have it as a leader today from DC to Roanoke.

Ok now this the second time I’ve seen this today... A train headed towards Hoboken, this time, 4 cars, a geep, then a cab car trailing the geep, cab end trailing providing marker lights. Perhaps this has something to do with PTC testing? But having cab cars on both ends of a revenue train is defini...

I am amazed that while the Cutoff is held up by bats, turtles, and lord know what else, these new gas and oil pipelines basically steamroll their way across the country with little to stop them.

No unions in Florida? CSX represented by BLET,SMART, BMWE etc. FEC represented by SMART, Amtrak represented by BLET, SMART, TCU, etc

If an automated commercial car wash can recycle most of its effluent dozens of times daily, Amtrak should be able to do the same.
Detergent for trains is an acid (sulfuric?) base, I don't know if that can be recycled or reused.

The smash boards at Shark had their own masts, probably the same design as a semaphore mast. Painting that counterweight must have been fun, dodging trains and bridge openings while trying to get the job done. I don't remember any other advertisements painted on the weight. Was in Bay Head the othe...

I’m the kind who usually reserves judgement. And that’s just what I did with the Sprinters until now. Lemons! They bought another batch of freaking LEMONS! Except for the AEM-7, EVERY electric locomotive Amtrak ever bought has been a failure. And now SEPTA is stuck with a fleet of these losers too....

I did see a Newark-Philly express with an AEM7 about 2 weeks ago. I think it was the 2303 pushing.

My 2 cents. It would appear that the new signals are a type of “Go, no go” somewhat like Metro-North and trains are governed by CBTC in cab. FWIK, Railfanning PATH is practically illegal since you can’t even take pictures.

The set in question has been running around recently with the 9644 and the 670. The testing phase with this consist was supposed to evaluate equipping the Auto-Train with ECP.

Offset signals are automatic/distant, while vertical signals are home signals.
