I'm not sure what type of work they are doing on the River sub, but I have been hearing a lot of activity with crews between CP33 and CP45. I don't normally pick up the crews radios, but I can hear the dispatcher's radio. I would also like to add another question: Is the DED at MP 20.5 out of servic...

Why are loco radios so bad?

Hi; I have been listening to railroad radio on a variety of scanners and amateur equipment for a long time, and one thing still stands out: Reception of transmissions from the locomotives is not very reliable. Even when the signal is strong, I often have trouble understanding what was being said due...

Re: Is the Southwest Chief westbound always late?

Well, perhaps sometimes the SW Chief can make up time between Flag and LA, but definitely not today. Checking Track your Train I find the SW #3 to be 3hr 18min late going into Barstow CA. In another country, or perhaps another life/universe, Amtrak would have its own mainline between Chicago and LA....

I found a live webcam at the Flagstaff AZ Amtrak station on Virtual Railfan. The first night I watched the wb Southwest Chief arrive there an hour late. Tonight, I'm not going to stay up to watch the train, as Amtrak's "Track Your Train" says the train is 2 hours late just over the NM/AZ l...

I've been listening on the radio to the CSX River line activity and it seems that the NI dispatcher is now in Jacksonville. Anyone know when it was moved from SK, and whether this is a permanent change or temporary. CP Edit: Just read the article about the move to Jax. What a mess it was. I feel for...

Re: Amtrak 91 - CSX Collision Cayce, SC - 2/4/18

Just for curiosity, I checked the status of Amtrak train #91 to Miami. It is currently being reported as 42 minutes early!
How could that be? Isn't there still blockage of that track, and even if not, wouldn't the ongoing investigation force a re-routing of the Amtrak #91 and its counterpart the #97?

If the CSX freight was backed into the siding, wouldn't it have been the responsibility of that crew to re-line the switch to normal and lock it? I can't imagine any rule that would allow a switch to remain in a position that would force another train onto an occupied or a "dead-end" sidin...

I was a Kickstarter contributor, so I received the 1st version of TANE "free" when it was released. Since then I have purchased the boxed version so that I could have a DRM Free copy - in case N3V servers suddenly disappear. I have been quite a bit disappointed with the new sim, even after...

Amtrak / CSX Colision at Cayce SC

Amtrak train #91 southbound from NY to Miami collided with a freight train on the CSX Columbia sub in /near Cayce S.C. early Sunday morning. News reports say that 2 persons have died, with more than 50 injured. From the vid I saw on CNN it looks like the accident occurred just south of the Charlesto...

Very interesting. I wonder if that would be included in the credits (which I rarely watch of course). If my curiosity keeps me going here, I'll have to go to my library and pick up the season 2 DVD again and watch it once more - more closely.

Hi; I just watched a run of re-re-run episodes of The Big Bang Theory, and was just wondering whether "The Terminator Uncoupling" was filmed aboard a moving train, as it would appear to be. I did notice the scenery changing, and not repeating, so that leads me to believe it could have been...

Long trains on the River sub. At 20:45 on 10/21/2017 I heard a train with 700 axles cross the EDD at mp 38.5. That's about the longest one I've heard so far. I'll be able to get its symbol as soon as it gets a bit farther south when I can hear the train. Seem to be lots of long trains on the RL late...

I saw the rail train heading north through Teaneck on Mon 8/15. I wasn't close enough to the track to see how much, if any rail was on the train, but it looked to me that there was no rail on the upper sections at least, unless it was in short enough sections to occupy only one car each. Perhaps the...

The new Tappan Zee Bridge is designed to support a future rail line. The main reason it is not being built with one already is lack of anticipated demand for rail service across the Hudson up there. You also have to consider geography. The Nyack approach to the bridge is very steep, and the right-o...
