Things are busy this week at Fort Carson as the 3d Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division is being loaded onto rail cars for movement to desert warfare training at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin in CA. The post's two geeps are in the enginehouse for a 92-day inspection while the two ...

A couple of times I've seen cars roll through Falls Church on the Orange Line with orange doors and I think their numbers were 6075-6076. Does anyone know why their doors would be this color?

Indeed No. 2014 pulled the last BCR train. Here are some photos by someone present that day:

As far as I know, no locomotives have been sold yet. Even before the DCLR received word that it would no longer be operating its routes after the end of the year, it had put one of its locomotives up for sale on Sterling Rail: http://www.sterlingrail.com/classifieds/classified.php?id=19426" onc...

The tracks have removed inside SPI. DCLR will continue operations until Dec 31, 2018. On Jan 1, 2019 Delmarva Central will take over operations. DCLR will still be in business but not as a railroad.

I think this unit was out of service for a short while and a leased NS locomotive was used in its place during that time. The March 2018 issue of the High Green, the newsletter of the Chesapeake Railway Association, reported: At the January 8, 2018 regular meeting of the Accomack-Northampton Transpo...

Looking at the Trains News Wire article, I don't see anything indicating the DCLR will cease operating early. In fact, the article states, "He [Dan Herholdt, DCLR president] said the railroad's last day will be Dec. 31."

The DCLR will continue operations up until the end. The company will continue to exist after the end of the year but it will no longer be involved in operating over its current lines.

Stainless Steel car on the W&W

In 2012 the W&W opened a track into the then-Essroc facility in Martinsburg, WV, an event covered by this article: http://articles.herald-mail.com/2012-08-10/news/33143218_1_essroc-italcementi-group-rail-line" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The accompanying photo partial...

The DCR took over the northern portion of the BCR largely out of necessity and in coordination with the BCR in order to provide continuous service to BCR customers. The documents filed with the STB indicate this situation was driven by the impending retirements of three of the four BCR employees, le...

I looked into the process further and learned the state's decision is based upon a scoring system and a proposal that includes marketing, equipment, experience, personnel, etc. Unfortunately for the little DCLR, Carload Express' DCR could out-score the shortline in every category, despite the fact t...

I'm not familiar with the details of how the state picks one operator over another, but as far as I know, it's a competitive bid, and the winner was the Delmarva Central Railroad (of Carload Express). The DCLR was already doing a fine job but that was no guarantee of being picked to continue operati...

I must admit to giving the Cape Charles Mirror a hint. I sent the CCM an email to let them know that the line had called it quits and sent a link to this forum as well as a couple of other places, such as the Wikipedia site for the BCR, and the article was written up almost verbatim from what alread...

Despite with the loss of SPI Pharma and about one-third of the eastern end of the line, the DCLR had even higher carloads and more companies seeking to locate along its remaining route. Things were looking up; however, what the DCLR had no control over was the decision-making by the state.
