Did those old passenger cars ever actually carry passengers on the ESHR or BCR? Or did they arrive, get painted, and then just sit in the yard?
I hope the museum is able to at least make the rolling presentable and not just let it rust away.

Thanks for the clarification on the barge. I've only been to Cape Charles a few times and I don't think I ever really noticed the barge on site. I just remember the yard being empty, absolutely nothing going on, and wondering how the railroad could hang on under such circumstances. As for the future...
The Nandua was sold to heavy equipment dealer Iron Planet, which has in turn sold it. See: https://www.ironplanet.com/for-sale/Barges-Rail-Car-Barge-Virginia/1708342" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Here is some information on the barge that sank. This article identifies it a...
If the title of this article is any indication, we may not know about the actual removal of the tracks until someone spots them being pulled up. It'll probably come without any warning. The tracks on the south side of the bridge were pulled some time ago. Those on the north side, going to the railroad's only customer at the end of the line, are seen still in place in the latest Google Earth image. I haven't been back since the last cars were pulled out of Lewes so I can't say for c...
I suspect the remaining locomotive is parked in Greenbelt when it's not service, although it may do overnights at other locations when doing extended work in a specific area. If you look at the Greenbelt yard in Google Earth you can see the work locomotive parked there.
Where along Route 13 did you see this?
I made a typo earlier. L001, L011, L012, and L021 are the ones that appear to be scrapped. L012 disappeared when I wasn't looking and is presumed scrapped. The lone survivor is now L002. Here's a rare picture of it online: http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=79389" onclick=&...
Thanks, John! Do you know what might have happened to L012, the only one not accounted for yet? I suspect it was scrapped locally, but I have nothing to confirm it.
In 1993 the DC Metro had five ex-military centercab locomotives for work trains -- four GEs and one Davenport. I saw the latter that year in the yard in Alexandria and an employee said they were leery about taking it into the tunnels again because its roof had scraped the tunnel ceiling during its l...
Some BCR cars in Cape Charles are on the move - sort of. See:

Fort Eustis started a deployment exercise by rail on 14 January and it may go on for several weeks, so if you're in the area you may see some rail cars with military vehicles leaving the post.
A correction to my earlier comment about No. 2014 pulling the last train, which was headed up by AVR 2005. Although No. 2014 was in the consist, running behind AVR 2005, I've learned that it was and had been out of service and the BCR was leasing AVR 2005 from the Delmarva Central Railroad on an as-...
The end of the DCLR's operations over its two branches is coming at the end of this month; however, I've yet to hear about which day will see the last run before the Delmarva Central Railroad takes over. If anyone hears anything, please speak up.
The November 30, 2018 issue of the Eastern Shore Post, Cape Charles edition, has an article about the end of rail service and what might be done with the rail property in Cape Charles. It starts on page 30. This link might work: http://www.easternshorepost.com/content/archived-editions/" onclic...
