I've received word that the Shenandoah Valley Railroad's No. 8701, an RS4TC, has been scrapped. Its body, minus trucks (sold to a railroad in Iowa), was spotted at the Cresson Steel Company in PA. A source in the valley tells me the locomotive hadn't run in years, could only pull a few cars at a tim...

The word I got from someone in the area was that the MDDE's previous management was not being responsive to the timely shipping requirements of Tyson. It escalated into a pissing contest between the railroad and the shipper that ended in the shipper switching to trucks. MDDE President Cathrin Banks ...

Here are some pictures of the first train to return to Snow Hill. MDDE 2628 led the way, and it appears that most, if not all, of the cars are hoppers.

I went over there today and it appears the report of track being lifted is a false alarm. I looked at the spur track, starting at the junction with Amtrak's NEC on the north side of the Odenton MARC station, past all of the public crossings, to where the track crosses Route 175 and I saw absolutely ...

From the Facebook page of the Baltimore Chapter NRHS: We've received a tip that the extremely short branch off the Northeast Corridor just north of the Odenton MARC depot, which crossed both Telegraph Road and Rt. 175, is in the process of being torn up. This short industrial spur operated in part o...

How this might affect the proposed tourist train is uncertain, but this Delmarva line, used for years for tank car storage, will soon see rail service again. https://mdcoastdispatch.com/2019/05/30/freight-trains-to-run-through-berlin-once-again/ Excerpt: May 30, 2019 Freight Trains To Run Through Be...

The three former Virginia Railway Express GP40Hs 4670-4672 are a mystery as far as the reason they were purchased and their intended purpose. The little interurban car ended up in Trego, WI, where I hope it does better than it did with the Bay Creek Railway in Cape Charles. See:
