But isn't this a unique point in time where the rail line actually IS for sale, and the current owner has no interest in retaining freight rights? Pan Am is (apparently) selling; lock stock and freight rights; if the state of NH or any buyer buys they get it all.

I missed that! The weeds up here in Parkdale by my place are tall and undisturbed.
Great essay, thank you! The stone arch bridge was a real find!
Nice analysis. I would love to see Fortress buy the whole system and keep it intact. Seems like it is worth more than the sum of its parts.
Stumbled across this cool old video. Glad that someone recorded active operations

Do you see that playing in favor of SLR or against them?
I second that; love those reports from Chair City
As of a couple weeks ago Mount Hood's two locomotives and what looks to be all of the passenger equipment are still on site. Their main (only?) freight customer, the mill that transloads in Odell, has added a second shift and there seems to be no shortage of lumber loads going out
As of a few days ago the 02 (GP38-2) was still on the property, and it looks like most of the passenger cars are still here. There were what seemed like way more lumber racks full and empty than usual down at the interchange

The USGS Earth Explorer website is a great source for imagery (and other data), all in the public domain. https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ You will need Geographic Information System (GIS) software to view it spatially. A good lightweight one is MapWindow, but there are others https://www.mapwindow.o...
