Re: Portsmouth Branch Activity

by oibu ¦  Wed Sep 23, 2020 11:20 am ¦  Forum: Pan Am Railways (formerly Guilford Rail System) ¦  Topic: Portsmouth Branch Activity ¦  Replies: 1657 ¦  Views: 438101

as far as the "activity" part of the thread, would anyone know the current operational pattern for the Portsmouth Branch? It seems like operational reports etc. seem to ebb and flow on the various lists/groups and lately haven't seen or heard much about it.

I looked back through some of the reports have seen and it appears to likely be correct that 909 and 910 do not run Sundays, I see 907s and 908s Sunday but only M-Sa for 909 and 910 (at least among the reports that I have seen and looked back through from the past month or two).

Thanks Ksmitty, good to know all of that and good to see that frequency of operation is supported even if track is 10 MPH on the north end. So they run out of Ft Kent instead of Madawaska now? Does that mean Madawaska-FK is yet another "turn" segment and Madawaska-Van Buren runs as before?...

Does EMRY/MNRY operate 907, 908, 909, and 910 all daily? Seems like it must be close to it but I'm not sure if it is literally 7 days for everything or not. If so that is good to see as a few years ago it was only "most days, as needed" with little real schedule. Probably as much as anythi...

Thanks, so you are saying that often only one side runs on a given day (i.e. only RUPO or only PORU?)

Slightly OT maybe but Is there still a Danville jct local?

Any updates on 252 or idea of what is involved? Not sure from the sound of it if it had a catastrophic failure (i.e. needs a new block or similar) or if it needs a repair, and whether in either case CSRR is capable of repairing near-term or if this is major longer-term project. Presumably by now tha...

Is there any traffic left on this segment of the Mountain besides Sappi? Does anyone know the frequency or predictability of service? I'm guessing it's hit and miss with PO-whatever just delivering cars "as needed".

Are RUPO/PORU still 7 days? Any reliability of schedule? I've tried a few times when I've been through the Rumford area the last few years but never had luck finding anything but the mill switcher.

^ to that end, does anyone know what/where/when Lehigh Ry. runs? Is there a reliable operating scheme or is it day-by-day?

My company (private) has been working on acquiring another (private) for half of a year. There isn't going to be one person told outside of the company besides debtors under NDA until it's official. That is just how it works. This isn't a public buyout. That said, from what little I have been able ...

Is there any source for this claim other than Trains? All the other (non railfan) media I see on the topic just cites Trains, and no other industry or government officials seem to know anything either way. I'm not going to take it too seriously just yet if the only source making the claim is a railf...

Agreed with harmonic, I haven't seen it for a couple of years now but the Millers Falls connection has been looking pretty sketchy for most of PAS's existence as far as I've seen. I could not say if it saw some work and usage right at the start of PAS as newpylong states and then fell back into disu...

Hadn't heard before about detours of IM/racks via CP and NECR, so I was assuming all detours were via Hoosick Jct-VTR/GMRC/Conn River to Greenfield. They must have done some work at Millers Falls to make the interchange track functional, last I saw it was overgrown (if not half-buried) and track str...

I figured there had to be some other intent but it is a little confusing to say a train went through the tunnel when talking about detours around a closed tunnel. Greenfield? BF? Or THE tunnel? Thanks for deciphering, I was pretty sure Hoosac wasn't going to be opened that quickly but the context wa...
