Re: What happens when Amtrak engines get busted

A question from another railfan off a Telegram group I'm in was wondering what happens to accident-involved engines. I know the first ALC-42/Charger got wrecked last year, and the P40 involved in the recent Colorado wreck looks in sad shape. Does Amtrak rebuild these? Depends upon how much money is...

These will be six car train sets on the regional Empire Service trains. Siemens diesel locomotive, 1 chair car with batteries instead of pantograph, 4 chair cars, and 1 chair car with cab. These trains will not have to be turned around because they will have cabs on both ends. Which chair car will h...

I hope that rumor is correct. The battery - diesel IMO was a poor idea. It was almost an attempt for NY state to get Amtrak back into GCT in the future, The diesel = electric will be much more useful in the future if the west side line starts getting CAT extended north from NYP. They will give the ...

The last mile problem is not Amtrak's responsibility, it is the local transit agency's and eventually your's.
Why this issue is even being discussed on the Amtrak forum?

You have asserted that there is a "railway union", a "pullman union", that none of the operating personnel are trained to handle customers, that the only good service is on sleeper trains. None of this is true. Zero. There are multiple trade unions and none are known as "ra...

The Feds, the State, the City, and the Port Authority spent over a $Billion refurbishing the old Post Office into the new Moynihan Hall, and it is no longer a great place for making train transfers at?
Why do we waste all this money on it if we do not wish to use it?

My head just exploded. Virtually none of this is rooted in reality. Really? When was the last time you saw a train conductor rise via Amtrak's attendant ranks? When was the last time you saw an engineer/driver rise to cook or sleeper attendant? The fact5s remain these crew members belong to differe...

What I see is plenty of potential for Amtrak to expand corridors. Yes. Amtrak should be looking at expanding corridors. While they are expanding it, realize they will be losing more money every year. How much more are the US taxpayers willing to subsidize Amtrak with poor service, poor reliability,...

The only train staff actually trained to service passengers are the food and sleeper attendants who are members of the Pullman Union, not the driver and conductor staff who are members of the Railway Union. On all trains, you will find drivers and conductors more concerned with operating the train t...

Why would they have to add third rail shoes to run Amtrak's new Airo trainsets on LIRR? Could Amtrak not run on catenary power until they left the catenary then run on diesels further east into Long Island? Just like everywhere else, except Empire trains heading north towards Albany, where they use ...

The Department of Transportation has an annual report of statistics. I’ve provided a link. Of note: The NEC Carrie’s more passengers DC-NY/BOS by over 3x. Overall though, there were 941 million passenger air boardings in 2022, while Amtrak handled 28.5 million passengers. Here’s the link: https://r...

There is already a Chicago to Raleigh service if you are willing to transfer trains.
#1 CHI to NUC on Lake Shore Limited, NYC to RAL on Carolinian or Silver Star
#2 CHI to WAS on Capital Limited, WAS to RAL on Carolinian or Silver Star
#3 CHI to WAS on Cardinal, WAS to RAL on Carolinian or Silver Star

Have there been any instances of a mechanical failure on a Brightline train? I'm not thinking of trespasser incidents such as crossing accidents. What would they use for rescue? What procedures to remove a disabled train from the RoW? Brightline runs two locomotives on all their trains. Of one loco...
