While it will reduce dwell times by 10-15 minutes, I don't think that's the real savings: eliminating the engine change also eliminates two light engine moves per engine change. Facing north(ish) at Union Station, all trains getting an engine change platform to the right of NEC (and MARC) trains te...

Timed so that "my crew" can take photos. It's getting to be that time again.

Lets try this again where there are currently engine changes, DC, Harrisburg, my own crew base ALB/Renn just to name a few. They are also crew change points and as long as we are on that lets add NYP, Philly, NHV with the last few depending on how the jobs are written. The Airo sets are going to sa...

AAaaaand time for track work! https://www.pennlive.com/news/2024/03/amtrak-begins-major-renewal-project-in-central-pa-altering-schedules.html?outputType=amp Railroad tracks installed between Harrisburg and Lancaster as early as the 1950s are being replaced as part of a $122 million project to improv...

Lets connect this all back to the Airo, shall we? Amtrak going push-pull on the NEC is going to save time in turning trains around. Yes, it'll haul another engine or a cab unit, but having not to wye trains in two Virginia stations, DC, NYC, and Boston is going to "turn" trains faster, eli...

But Houston does have two light rail lines. Not only will they pay for it, they already have!
They need more.

It seems unlikely that there is even demand on every train during the day , yet they all are the same consist. The question is wether the cost of changing consist lenght is worth the extra ticket revenue that a longer consist would bring , or the savings in running costs of running a shorter consis...

+1. And if you don’t plan ahead and bring food with you, it’s your problem. The argument of “people won’t ride the train if there’s no cafe car” is absurd. The LD routes need both the dining and cafe cars and the DC-BOS NEC trains do warrant cafe cars (though I wouldn’t miss them if they were repla...

There is more legroom, a footrest, curtains and more seat recline in the 2x2 business coaches than a standard Amfleet 1 coach. But yes the seat dimensions themselves are basically the same - not as nice as the club-dinettes. And on the Pennsylvanian it is kind of pointless because it has Amfleet 2 ...

Lots of good points made here. 1. Houston has like five downtowns and 4-5 exurbs that are cities unto themselves. Where do you terminate this? The real downtown? Galleria? Medical district? Hobby? IAH? Energy Corridor? Katy? Conroe? Woodlands? If this were Chicago or New York, "downtown" ...

That is correct. Pennsylvania does not want to pay for it. I would consider it a waste as the service is really a quasi commuter service between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. I have been taking Keystones most evenings home from work to Paoli and I have noticed the crew announcing there is no cafe ca...

When you're getting Airo sets on the DownEaster.

A size comparison? In this forum? Already?!? If you really have problems imagining how big trains can be, you need to get out and touch engines. :)
