Holy cow - I can't believe the pix are of the A&A (although the condition of the rail gives it away and still warms my heart)! Great photos Nessman. Only wish I could have seen the work progressing myself. Man, what a great job the likes of which haven't been seen on the RR for 25 years or more....

Mountcastle - Don't know if I like the sound of this or not. I will miss the iconic orange and black which did set it apart from other excursions. How is the rehabbing of the track coming along and did you notice a difference during the excursion?

I also read (thought it was the Buffalo News) that the gondola will be retrofitted too. Buffalo News stated "The makeover is scheduled to air on “Good Morning America” on Sept. 26, said producer Diane Masciale"

Thanks for the great info BSOR Patarak! With all that is going on with the RR this year it is great to hear even the slightest consideration of a Railfan Day. I'll be one attending for sure. Keep up the good work.

In the latest RailPace Magazine, WNY Observer section, it is stated that on Sept 13th there is a railfan day at the railroad with the possibile presence of a second steam engine. I checked the A&A website under the "events" section this am and they have dinner trains running that day a...

Great! Can't wait to see them. Wish I could monitor the progress every so often but will be unable at least for a few months.

Talked with one of the fine folks at the RR on Friday July 4th regarding tie replacement and roadbed work. They have a Syracuse NY railroad contractor lined up to begin work later this week. Work to be done 3 days per week beginning with switch replacement and then tie replacement. Lots of ties pain...

All - According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle on 5/24/08, looks like the A&A is soliciting bids for trackwork, turnout, OTM, and grade crossing rehabilitation from MP 0.00 Arcade NY to MP 11.00 Java/Shelton NY. June 17, 2008 is the closing date. Maybe this will answer some of the quest...

You guys have done, and continue to do an excellent, excellent job. And with the news of 18 being put back in service on May 24th, the faithful couldn't ask for anything better!
