I don't know if this counts, but in March 2003 I saw a Superliner trainset in Detroit. It seemed to be running approximately when 350 would be coming through, eastbound. That train normally runs with single-level equipment (as it indeed was when we passed it on my eastbound, and later my westbound ...

Gotcha. I saw some kids up there that looked like railfans on Friday. Thought one might be you. I was long gone out to Nelson and Sterling for Saturday.

AmtrakFan,

I see you live in Downers Grove. You weren't one of the kids watching trains up at the station on Friday evening, were you?

I went to Rochelle this weekend and was pretty dissapointed. I don't get it, what's the big draw with this place? Any of you guys actually go there?

Why not contact them directly? I would think a company that size would have someone who would handle public relations and media inquiries.

The largest one in the first photo would be a Ford automotive plant, but I do not know what they manufacture there. I do seem to recall seeing hi-cube auto parts boxcars and gondolas around there.

I'm spending this coming weekend around Illinois and I'd like to be able to communicate with other railfans around the state via amateur radio. Are there any open 6m, 2m, or 70cm repeaters in the Rochelle/Sterling, Watseka/Gillman, or Downers Grove areas that railfans frequent? What are the frequenc...

In Ohio BNSF and UP power isn't rare at all. I'd wager that over half of the trains through this area have some sort of foreign-road or lease power in them. Spending a day at Deshler or Fostoria and you'd easily nab six trains each of pure UP or BNSF power in a 24-hour period. It guess it's all rela...

I was a bigger fan of JDI and KPK myself. I think a lot of the DPM mystique comes from the era he was around in.
