Re: Pennington, NJ

Yep, that former Reading station is right on the active CSX Trenton Subdivision line. Maybe the original platform is the backyard patio! EDIT: I was joking, but additional photos from a realtor site shows the platform really is the backyard patio, right next to the tracks. Pennington Station Backyar...

Interestingly, the new info has a station called "Disney". The idea for a station on Disney property has been bantered around for a while and the last thing I remember is that WDW did not want a station on their property. Perhaps the new flashy image or Mr. Branson himself has changed the...

Great pics. So the pump house spur was on the other side from the yard? I'm having a hard time pinning down where it was from historic aerials.

Is there any sign of the RR left between the PATH tunnel portal in JC and exchange place and the yard? The tracks to the yard branched off from the main Pennsy JC line just before the turnpike. The massive embankment carrying the line to the yard (minus the bridges) is still there along 6th Street....

In the time-honored tradition of responding to years-old threads -- sometime in or just before 1985, which is when CR sold the property. In 1986, I moved to Third Street in downtown JC, just 2-3 blocks south of the Harsimus embankment, and I remember my landlady telling me that runs over the embankm...

Two benefits of the move, one of which Noel alluded to, are that there will be secured (albeit apparently not free) parking, and the station will be closer to the rest of Miami. I know people who are put off by the fact that the current station is not only pretty far north -- roughly NW 83rd Street!...

NYT piece: New Jersey Transit, a Cautionary Tale of Neglect

Stunning. And it's pretty clear who bears a lot, if not most, of the blame.

I don't think it's enough to even fund the proposed light rail lines. And certainly they're possible, but will they end up happening? I'm doubtful if only because I've seen the same plans be put forward again and again with nothing happening except for the short MIA extension and the even shorter ex...

It's gone (and is still going to) routine transit operations, maintenance, and overhead, mainly because what little there already is of transit was itself underfinanced. As for the latest proposal -- sigh -- la plus ça change... The big difference is that it's going to be a light rail system separat...

It's quite evident that Miami has had its head in the sand for about 20 years now concerning transportation, but at least they're coming to realize it. I don't think so. Carlos Gimenez (running for reelection as county mayor, for those of you not from the area) said yesterday in response to his opp...

http://www.njherald.com/article/20151207/ARTICLE/312079987 Now looking at 2018 just for Andover. I'm all for preserving wetlands and all, but aren't these man-made wetlands? Meaning if the tracks had been used all of these years, these wetlands never would have appeared. What are Indiana bats doing...

From this morning's Herald, it ooks like they're trying to push this now: Miami-Orlando train track may host Tri-Rail commuter trains to downtown Tri-Rail, the commuter service that has been running trains on the CSX track west of Interstate 95 between Palm Beach County and Miami since late last cen...

Getting closer now. From this morning's Herald: With ‘quiet zones’ funded for Miami-Dade, All Aboard Florida moves ahead I still have doubts as to viability. If I were traveling by myself on business from Miami to Orlando, then yes. But like most of South Florida, the vast majority of trips to Orlan...

I didn't see the article in the Herald but there was one in the Sun-Sentinel a couple of days ago: Tri-Rail moving ahead with coastal railroad expansion What I found interesting is that, in addition to using previously discussed connections between FEC and CSX north of West Palm and in Miami, a &quo...
