Re: DRIVING THROUGH PHILLIPSBURG

Did the DL&W and LVRR share the elevated station on Main Street? It sits right between the two lines, just before the M&E line junction with the LVRR Main Line. And how realistic are the prospects for M&E passenger service being extended there? It wasn't all that long ago that the wester...

Re: Why no direct service to Port of Miami

The Port of Miami acts as a distribution point for the Caribbean Basin and Central America. As such, many (most?) containers never even leave the port but are simply transloaded from a vessel in "Liner" service to the small feeder vessels which serve the myriad island ports of the Carribe...

Getting back on topic, I was down in the Redlands and Homestead area over the weekend, and took some photos of the (moved) Homestead FEC passenger station and freight depot, as well as the Homestead SAL station, which is still in the same location on the infrequently used CSX tracks. http://img46.im...

It's been a while since anything was posted concerning this but apparently there are plans to rejunative the Port of Miami rail bridge and yards. Much work is planned for the Downtown Lead connecting the area to the FEC main line. I am going to try to provide a link which will tell more. Amtrak wou...

The Homestead FEC passenger station is still standing, but was moved a few blocks to 826 N. Krome Avenue. It's now the Florida Pioneer Museum. (For that matter the Homestead SAL passenger station -- which I don't believe has seen passenger traffic since perhaps WWII -- is still standing in its origi...

Re: Did Flaglers route go THRU Miami Station?

For a couple of miles immediately south of downtown Miami, the former FEC has been gone for a long time. There was service to Homestead into the 1980s; when I was working in Miami in 1981 I used to see the local along Brickell Ave., right next to where they were erecting the supports for Miami Metr...

Great pics, Frank, thanks. Those must have been taken just before Amtrak decided to decamp in 1977 and set up the station farther NW in the coach yards on the Hialeah border. I still would love to see a pic of the front of the old terminal, though. I'm not sure I'm willing to buy a copy of the Welsh...

Prior to the opening of the present facility located at the Seaboard's Coach Yard in Haleah, Amtrak used the Seaboard's Miami station for which unfortunately I am not able to locate a photo at the web. That station was located adjacent to the one-time Miami Stadium as noted by Mr. Afficiando. It wa...

Well maybe you do have a point there Noel. We sort of "winged it" on the return trip home - we knew the TriRail schedule but assumed the Miami MetroRail ran as frequently as say the PATH (and did not check its schedule). So in essence we must have just missed the 3:19pm MetroRail from Gov...

P.S.: What idiot came up with the extension that yielded the Palmetto station? A couple million poured into an extension that goes farther then nowhere. Go figure. I don't see myself using Metrorail to get to U-Pick Auto Parts. Actually (and at the risk of getting this thread locked -- sorry!), I c...
