On my way!
My grandparents were named Frank and Clara Smith. I'm sure it's just a coincidence since the years noted don't really work for me, but hey! Maybe I'm a rail baron and don't know it.
Any idea where this stretch of track was (is) ?
That's a great shot of 567s doing what God intended. Of note on the right is a line of ballast next to the building - that's all that's left of the spur off the main that served (among others) DeKalb Corn in that location. Eventual removal of the unused spur enabled the reconfiguration of Plastermil...
More photos here (just loaded, haven't had time to edit yet): http://rrpicturearchives.net/archiveThumbs.aspx?id=133751 To answer your question, I don't know, but I doubt it. The spur to the loading dock (for the occasional boxcar) is still intact, so putting the rails back in doesn't give you anyth...
They're still there, just tucked around the corner on the lower lead. The construction is for a water line along a portion of the Auburn Road, which (for whatever reason) necessitated removal of the trackage close to Maple Ave. Service to VI is unaffected.
From another thread: "With the advent of LIDAR, all those old hidden ROWs that have disappeared with the past must feel like fish that had been comfortably hiding on the bottom of the lake did when fish finders were invented." I went out for a nice fall walk and poked around the southwest ...
... not that I ever went there ...
This 1978 topo shows a shoofly for West Henrietta Road, so I have to assume that's when the crossing came out and the bridge went in, plus or minus a couple of years. I don't remember anything unique about that crossing, but I would love to be wrong! Are you sure they weren't thinking about the flas...
... and if you go for a nice fall hike to justify that second helping of pumpkin pie, you might see this - one of the few leftovers of the R&E:
The above posters are correct with one clarification. The track on the right with the boxcar is today's FGLK connection to the former LV line along the east side of the lake, but only because a section of the old LV embankment has been plowed away to enable the track under the boxcar to now loop aro...
Well that makes a lot of sense. By the way, Google Maps shows a "Fischers Station Dr" https://goo.gl/maps/4DX6ijHg6tmkYZZdA But it is not near any obvious RR lines. And the road seems quite new, or at least all the buildings around it look that way. Fishers Station Drive (as it says on th...
... Freeville or Flemingville (both on the LV). It's 1894. Who's going to correct them if they make a mistake?
The clock is ticking.
Here's one of the photos as noted in previous posts. If you zoom in to the lower left hand corner, you can see what appear to be (but probably not likely) outside third rails for under running shoes. But then again, they're probably just bumping posts for keeping minor derailments just that - minor....
