I don't think they need a full food service car. The night buses are making money without these services, and without showers. For Food, they could either just provide vouchers worth a specific amount, good at any place in the terminal, or partner with a restaurant in the terminal. For example, all ...

There are LA to SF night buses that are pretty cool. The big downside to the night bus if you have to get off when it arrives. How this service could succeed would be if it allowed passengers to remain on the train until X time. For example, if the train arrives at 6:00 am, passengers can remain on ...

2. I wonder if anyone at Amtrak has considered having a “berth car” or a section of each new sleeping car devoted to upper and lower berths. Granted they’re not roomettes, but they’re more economically priced and provide more privacy than coach. I booked a lower berth on VIA Rail from Vancouver to ...

Amtrak has a co-branded card though. Lots of these companies do.

United has 4 co-branded cards with Chase that earn United Miles, or you can use one of Chase's cards to earn Ultimate Rewards to transfer to United.

Mr. Norton, you are missing out. Gone are the days of that. I've booked two rewards flights on United this year and both were nothing but pleasant. I booked a flight over Memorial Day weekend to Nashville and a flight over Thanksgiving break to Albuquerque. I got direct flights to and from Nashville...

A Real Missed Opportunity: Lack of an AGR Portal Partner

Over the past two years, I have really got into rewards travel with credit cards. Between Chase and Amex, I've collected probably 300,000 points and taken two trips so far. I was looking to do some traveling recently and it hit me, I can't do anything with AGR. I can book travel on a variety of airl...

That is very true. My parents live in Florida and in December, they get an extra hour of sunlight compared to here in Maryland. In some ways, I think keeping things the way they are works. It might make sense for some southern states to switch to a permanent time, but for northern states, when peopl...

I disagree. Standard time all year means the sun comes up at 4:30am in the summer and sets at 7pm. People and businesses who enjoy the long summer evenings would be screwed over by standard time all year.

Standard time all year really only favors morning people.

I'm honestly curious about this. There's a HUGE desert between West Palm Beach and Orlando and I know that the Space Coast and Treasure coast are growing. The fact they can't use Brightline will def limit the service.

https://i.imgur.com/pczm55z.png This space in yellow looks like it could easily house two tracks, if not 3, elevated over the parking lot. People walk out to the tracks and board the train. The tracks combine into 1, accessing the main via that abandoned spur track. Trains heading for Newport News ...

I've always wondered why no one has considered two stub end tracks built over that large parking lot on the east end of the station. That would allow 2 trains that terminate in Richmond to load and unload there as well as lay up, and keep the main free. Then the main would be used for Newport News b...

So the title of the thread is "Amtrak Profit Center-Auto Train."

If Amtrak is making money off the Auto Train, it sounds like it's a concept that works, so wouldn't it make sense to explore how it can be expanded either at Lorton or elsewhere?

I will say, credit where credit is due, I had a positive trip back from Williamsburg. Everything was on time, or within 10 minutes of being on time which I'm ok with.

It's hard to tell elevation from satellite photos, but it does look like the High line runs parallel to a track that connects to the unused leg of Zoo wye. It looks like there is room to install a switch. I agree though, negotiating to run via CSX would be simpler and open up a huge market I think f...
