Yesterday 3/14 the dispatcher put the main out of service for awhile to align the switches. Where are WC & UK located on the line? Did this cause the NS 524 and 522 to both hold up in Olean yard? Anybody know the scoop? How long was the line out of service?

I saw #421 leading #420 and a string of cars North at the E River Rd crossing on the LAL RR on 10/6/04. It was doing the job alright but sure could use a paint job. #421 is marked with its numbers directly under the windows much like #426 and others not yet completely painted in the LAL scheme.

Burns is still Allegany Co. and although Steuben hasnt come out from under its rock with 911 service, if you dial 911 the nearest county will recieve it. Thats the magic of the 911 system and cell phones. Also, when a particular county 911 system gets overloaded, calls forward to the next closest 91...

According to WKPQ News 105.3 FM in Hornell, at approximately 10:30am this morning 8 cars of a NS Frieght train derailed in Burns NY, Allegany County. So the detours are a necessity. Guess the WNYP got that line open just in time. I thought things were quiet on the line in Arkport this morning. For t...

Alcoman, This will almost be in your eye all the way to Vandalia. Starting in Hornell on West St. by the overhead bridge. at the wye where the WNYP meets the NS line. North tracks are the NS line to Portage/Buffalo. Follow Rt 21 towards Andover. Railroad will be to your left to the ALmond dam. Then ...

As was, any of the LAL family is worth a visit, be sure to get permission to be on the grounds. As for your other question, the autumn colors, can be from the third week of September to the second week of October, naturally based on Mother Nature. Have a good trip.

Alcoman,

I have followed it several times, from Hornell to Jamestown, but mostly on the eastern end, Hornell to Olean. The repairs have been made, and some are extensive. The appearance is very good, insome cases better than under prior operatorships.

Where do we start, all over again?
