Interesting observation in Rumford yesterday was the sight of multiple Hub Group 53 foot domestic
containers on NS highway chassis at ND Paper's 15PM loading dock.

Expecting the Mods to rap my knuckles for posting GT/CN stuff in the SLR thread but there isn't

Went for a joyride yesterday as I was curious about progress east of Bangor. Welded rail has been installed through Lincoln and Enfield to around Greenbush. The rail at Greenbush didn't appear as heavy as that at Lincoln and not all of it has been surfaced. Saw a surfacing crew working at Enfield. B...

The Oxford Hills High School athletic fields located along Alpine St and at the north end of Charles St in South Paris was once the location of Wilner Wood Products. Started after WW2 and operating into the early 1980's the firm manufactured wood heels for the shoe industry and as a byproduct produc...

And now I notice 4537 appears to be missing flags entirely!

In the early/mid 70's 798/799 had working limits from South Paris east to Danville Jct. and west to Bethel but usually left South Paris only to deliver cars to Homegas in Oxford and work the Norway Branch. At the time Marcal paper in Mechanic Falls was worked by the 748/749 turn out of Portland. You...

Going back in time are a couple of shots of CN 393 Extra 4537 West at the same location, Merrill's Crossing ( High St. ), at the west yard limit sign with the South Paris Road switcher train798/799 engine 4442 in it's sometime role as helper shoving on the rear of the train. CN was experiencing a mo...

I was told years ago this caboose long displayed in New Gloucester, ME belonged to Stewart Parks, former chief mechanical officer of Maine Central Railroad. Driving by on Friday I noticed the sign recently posted on it. Hope they can find a good home for it as the weather has taken a toll the past c...

To add to the above post an early very under exposed late day shot of CSRR 47 picking up a car of coal
just set off by RY-2 at Intervale shortly after CSRR operations started in August 1974

This timeline of events on Conway Branch and CSRR may be of interest. Info culled from 470 RR Club newsletters and a letter to the editor of Railfan Magazine from Dwight Smith appearing in the Fall 1975 issue. 1-70. A couple of times in the past few weeks I've found RUPO ( I know- I've got to learn the new designations ! ) tied down on the branch during the day- once at Rumford around noon and another time at West Peru about 1500 but I've also seen a WB way down in the yard at Danville 1500-1600. A week ago I s...
