that would be a dream come true! Kittatinny Valley State Parks in Andover would be the contact. I believe the property just north of your complex may be private farmland, but don't quote me on that. With state budgets failing, it may not be developed for quite some time. I've hiked the whole line in...
not really Dave. One distinct possibility- don't know if you're aware of NJ Transit restoring Lackawanna Cutoff to Andover. It's getting real close to happening, (of course we've heard that before) . Would be interesting to see if it does happen. then there's always the possibility of passenger serv...
didn't know that Marty, but that's why you are the guru . Apparently the company itself has been around for several decades according to their website. Sparta area is really booming lately for the old L&H ROW!
Heard through the grapevine that a spur could be rejuvenated into the old Limecrest facility once serviced by the LHR. Braen Stone has apparently taken over operations there and are considering using the rails to ship products. They are supposedly pumping out one of the mines that has since filled i...
just a heads up to Jon and anyone else exploring the old "Warwick Yards." Jones Chemical has pretty tight security around the perimeter of their property for obvious reasons since 911. You be pretty safe taking picks from the grounds of the HQ there, but if you venture even close to their ...
Marty?
CNJ Fan $evr- I did notice on Facebook someone posted they will be re-opening. Great news for race fans!
The original Sugar Loaf station was built during the beginning of the Warwick Valley RR-early 1860's. It sat northwest of the grade crossing, and facing towards Chester it was on the left, as was the creamery. It was replaced in the early 1900's by a newer station, same site. Disappeared in the 1940...
Furnace across the Delaware? I'm not sure the LHR itself ran across the Delaware other than the SEP bridge to Easton The PRR via the Bel-Del may have run over the bridge at Foul Rift for the coal plant over there in Martin's Creek. did you mean the Pequest Furnace across the Pequest Creek in Pequest...
N.Y.S.W. added a new siding in at Woodruff's Gap just northwest of the Route 15 overpass. Apparently this was done some time in the fall of 2012. Always nice to see expansion!!
I have a few pics/maps of the TT/Roundhouse at Hudson Yard in my book. will have shots of the Warwick Roundhouse in my second book.
There was a line called the Lehigh and Oxford which operated from Oxford to Buttzville and interchanged with the Lehigh and Hudson River Railway. Last time I saw Tracy Antz he was planning to do and article on this line and had done some nice extensive research on it. I believe the Princeton collect...
I believe Lowenthal's Lackawanna Railroad in Northwest NJ book has a few maps of some of the mines there, possibly in his Iron Mines of NJ book as well. There certainly was a lot of activity there, I did a bunch of research for that area. If I can find any maps I may have I'll be happy to post them.
Ah, there's that covered stairwell leading to the infamous Franklin Station....thanks Marty! apparently, from what I've heard, the new bridge will be completed around January 2014. I guess the thing that's good is that the construction of yesteryear lasted over 80 years.
