There is rule 562 EASTBOUND only on #4 track from Ham to Midway. From County to Midway all 4 tracks are now full 562 and two new interlockings were added for the NJ Transit new brunswick loop thing. The 562 is a part of the High Speed Rail Improvement Project. Because reducing redundancy on a crowd...

This was pretty unorthodox, and I don't know how widespread it was elsewhere, but around the 1950's the Santa Fe used to wye the San Diegans with passengers aboard. There was (and I think still is) a wye between Old Town and San Diego; eastbound trains from LA used to wye there and then back the re...

what about at Boston South Station? There is a loop track. In DC there is a wye. Generally all single end Amtrak trainsets are looped or wyed to avoid having to rotate all of the seats in the coaches since riding backwards makes many people sick. Go find any single-end-train Amtrak terminal and you...

What part of SEPTA being broke don't people understand? The problem is Harrisburg, not 1234 Market. It's easy to say that SEPTA is mismanaged or stupid, but in 2014 the root cause of their problems is money. When they moved their HQ cleaning from night to day so they could turn off the lights and sa...

I've actually found the LED lamps on the ASC-86's to be much less bright than standard lamps. I can tell because older headlights used to oversaturate the CCD on my camera and the LED's don't.

I'm not sure which train you were riding, but the old Reading Main Line has major problems that need to be corrected even before a Beta Test. 1) The speeds are abysmal. Yes, we were mostly running at 40-50mph freight train speeds, but you can't just plop down a passenger train and dig out the old 19...

Park at the Bordentown RiverLINE station (5 min from 295 via Rt 130) and pay the ~$4.00 to connect the RiverLINE to PATCO. Service is more frequent and not much slower. There is absolutely no reason to ride SEPTA from either NJ station unless you are traveling after the hours the RiverLINE operates.

SEPTA timetables and online schedules show it as Jefferson Station.
I was assuming that SEPTA also sold the Historic Naming Rights which retcons Reading Terminal as Jefferson Terminal.

It seems like Amtrak is going to stick with the "round trip" type of operation and also understand the appeal of rare mileage. If the trip stays based in Philly I would look to a Trenton Line, Lehigh Line, Reading Line, Harrisburg Line circuit. The High Line was clearly the highlight of th...
