I second R&DB's suggestion regarding Trail of the Blue Comet. Most of what I know regarding the line is from that book. I've read it at least three times since getting it about 20 years ago and learn more each time. Considering the fact that it's about the size of a medium-sized phone book (rem...

I suppose one could get crazy and float in a temporary bridge, but then you have to fix track on the other side and work with more people, so who knows. Well, the nearest active track, which ends not too far north of Norman's Kill on Cabbage Island, is in good repair. It is currently used by Sims M...

Since this thread got a bump, this brings to mind another thread ( Metuchen Yard Operations ) with posts from this past December mentioning a new client in Heller Park (Yanuzzi Materials). There was a image of gondolas in a yard siding, from whence they would be taken to the new customer - any furth...

That's all the stuff that was at Colonie... it's all gone, most of it was scrapped I believe. I do remember hearing most (all?) of what was at that location was scrapped. And it looks like the video was of a Conrail U25B, another RS3, and that's as far as I watched. Isn't this location where they h...

Wasn't that suppose to be the operation at Island Rail Terminal on Emjay Blvd in Brentwood. It burned down in 2013, and was then shut down by the State.
Google Aerial just shows a kind of half-used cluttered junk/storage yard there now. Looks like the truck scales are still there, however.

Sorry, nothing concerning the deposition of any equipment movement at Glenmont, however today I came across this 'urbex' style video tour of the equipment at Glenmont (oh, sorry, "Undisclosed Location" ). The videographer points out various stolen items like Builders' plates and so on. Pos...

Yes, there was a 2007 double stack clearance project.

Looking at the site via Google aerial - Since the former propane terminal is gone, could that site be used in the IM yard expansion? What about the large unused area to the SE of the current IM yard (East of the Yacht facility). Consider: rehab the former North propane trackage into a new South IM t...

The high side hoppers are for new customer Yanuzzi Materials. They ship out recycled building materials and they’re located in Heller Park. To get there RC has the cross the mill brook trestle which hasn’t seen a train in probably 20 years. In less six months since taking over Heller Park from Conr...

You probably seen that the line doesn't go much further south than Bay Milling, stopping just 2 blocks south, short of Clifton Ave - and it's effectively 3 track right around Bay Milling, but 1 track blocks north of that. Here's the Google Street view of the Crooks Ave. crossing shown in that Railpa...

I believe those are two different branches, approximately 10 or so blocks apart. The line that Bay State Milling is on used to continue on south thru downtown Passaic and beyond (this was the former EL mainline), while the Newark Branch (west) splits off its mainline again about 1o or so blocks to t...

riffian's response jogged my memory, convincing me that I misremembered a few details (and I did). So I went to Historic aerials - riffian is correct, the building that is now a cosmetics outlet ("Precocious Cosmetics") did indeed receive covered hoppers into this century (some of the aeri...

Well,. from that linked news clip at least 2 of the cars were center-beams, not boxcars. Those two, and one plate F boxcar, were visibly on their side, but I couldn't make out if there were further cars toppled from that clip.

The Passaic Branch I sort of figured, ever since GSP closed after Enron failed (18 or so years ago) nothing really to service (self-storage and small outlets...and townhouses... don't need rail freight service. That little materials facility with the shed that straddles the line, I never saw anythin...

Aha, MEC has provided the keywords I was looking for: "NGL Supply Terminal Co.". Using that company name, some searching brings up an article from September 2015 that fills in some of the gaps I had (excerpts): NGL Supply Terminal Co. is moving forward with its plan to move from Commercial...
