This ongoing Bethlehem/Quakertown thing has a lot that's already been said about it (old railroad.net forums, RIP!). Butlershops: SEPTA + your open-ended questions = only a fortune-teller knows! Seriously, if the recent Schuylkill Valley Metro (aka MetroRail) fiasco is any clue, count on SEPTA to wa...

Send that fax to CSX

Sounds like a scene from "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Go for it! The potential confusion that could stem from your good deed is nothing when compared to the chaos produced by all of the big "playas" already in the game...Bethlehem city government, NS, the STB, Bucks & M...

aem7: I agree - the Reading's RDCs used in "Crusader" and "Wall Street" service would have needed the former PRR cab signal system after the Aldene Plan was put into effect. Once the CNJ's Jersey City Terminal was closed, the RDG's trains had to use a bit of the Northeast Corrido...

Bethlehem Branch cab-signalling system

 by Franklin Gowen ¦  Thu Mar 11, 2004 10:30 pm ¦  Forum: Reading Company ¦  Topic: Bethlehem Branch cab-signalling system ¦  Replies: 15 ¦  Views: 8411

Back before the latest re-vamp that wiped the forums clean, there were a few posts about the cab-signalling system which the RDG applied to the Bethlehem Branch. I am hoping to clear up a few points about it while my memory of the original posts is still relatively fresh. Was this system intended fo...

FL9 F-10 Discussion: Metro-North / CtDOT / Amtrak

 by Franklin Gowen ¦  Thu Mar 11, 2004 10:21 pm ¦  Forum: New York City Area Wide Rail Transit Issues (Cross-Agency) ¦  Topic: FL9 F-10 Discussion: Metro-North / CtDOT / Amtrak ¦  Replies: 2560 ¦  Views: 763305

Are any FL9s (or FP10s) still used on "shuttle" runs on the Danbury Branch, Waterbury Branch, and the upper part of the Harlem Branch? Would these be reliable assignments (e.g., a week at a time), or just pinch-hitting for GE's Ugly Genny and her sisters? If so, could some kind soul provid...

R.I.P., MetroRail: What's Next?

 by Franklin Gowen ¦  Thu Mar 11, 2004 9:49 pm ¦  Forum: SEPTA (and PATCO) ¦  Topic: R.I.P., MetroRail: What's Next? ¦  Replies: 23 ¦  Views: 9195

I figured we might as well pick up on the sad state of the Schuylkill Valley Metro, aka MetroRail, aka SEPTA Wants a Trolley To Wyomissing & Reading. The previous SEPTA proposal was torpedoed by the Feds, and has pretty much sunk. Good riddance. I hope that awareness of MetroRail's fatal flaws i...

...STRIKE! You're out (and on foot)!

The three-year itch is nearly back to plague all of us. Last I heard, TWU indicated its willingness to walk out next Monday. Has anyone else heard additional info about the current state of the contract negotiations? Don't forget that the other unions' time is up in the weeks just after next Monday....

PRR Bustleton Branch

by Franklin Gowen ¦  Thu Mar 11, 2004 9:34 pm ¦  Forum: SEPTA (and PATCO) ¦  Topic: Holmesburg Junction Branch ¦  Replies: 25 ¦  Views: 9932

This sounds like the old PRR Bustleton Branch. There was indeed a lot of good info on where it went, but I fear that all of that was destroyed when this new version of the site was created. I'm sorry that I can't help much with your request. Hopefully one of the original posters will see this thread...
