As of the morning of 9/1/2022, the 514 was still sitting on the interchange track in Manville, waiting patiently to be picked up to begin the trip home.

Not likely about the impediment. I read somewhere (might have been further up in this thread) that the obstruction is part of a bridge structure, so that can't be changed. Where? How did something get built literally inches from the plate clearance? The bridge in question is in East Haven, but I sa...

Looks like most of the push-pulls are not running. Checking the SEPTA Real Time, yesterday afternoon I saw only one, on Paoli-Thorndale, train #1593. Anybody know what happened? I saw the West Trenton, Trenton, and both Thorndale sets roll on the afternoon of the 22nd while I was on the High Line w...

It's not really a problem, since they're working to the side of the ROW... no island platforms involved. It all came down to available funding at the time.

What is with all these short platforms? With conventional coaches, they could platform all doors to access a 4-car train (except the ones on the far ends of the end cars) with no issue with the short platforms. You should have seen how it was with the original station platforms when the service fir...

when i rode yesterday and this morning the crews were using the door controls like MNR does. On the way home they mad us all group up to two doors. the Conductor claimed the FRA does not allow Amtrak to use the door control and they need to man a door I did some video fanning on SLE this morning. A wee bit better. I forgot they did that on segments of Metro-North before they reduced all their 90mph territory to 80mph.

Perhaps the lack of faster times are 1. Not all trains will be M8 sets initially, so the schedules still have to assume diesel speeds. 2. If the M8's are still limited to 80mph by Amtrak, that would also make sense for no decrease in times. But that sure does not account for the odd padding mentione...

Is there any chance Amtrak will remove that one impediment to the 3rd rail shoes? Otherwise, how is MNRR going to get those cars for overhaul to the maintenance facility at Croton? I suppose that the shoes could be installed at New Haven to allow ferrying to Croton? Not likely about the impediment....

May 24th is the date for M8s beginning service on SLE. No thru trains to STM or GCT at this time. Of course, since the M8 sets assigned to SLE will be devoid of third rail shoes, there will not be any thru trains to GCT under any circumstances. I guess I know what I'll be doing on either the 27th o...

Related question - MNCR trains that will go to Penn what that service happens - how will they be powered? Is Amtrak or will it be required to remove all the 3rd rail impediments on the route. It may be SLE will have to pay for these improvements. Just a thought. Are these shoes permanently extended or are they retractable? If fixed that may be why no one thought about the problem? The third rail shoes ...

Only thing I heard was Metro North is pushing back against removing the third rail shoes on some of the sets that will run SLE service. With good reason, I think. Kind of makes it a bit difficult to simply grab a trainset for one service or the other when needed if they have to segregate the fleet ...
