Re: Buffalo snow

Just below Buffalo snow totals anywhere from 24 to 80 inches give or take. Hamburg at the casino got about four feet, so they were wise to cancel the train show. What gets me is how surprised people are by this. It happens every few years. I had to look in my book, but in 2014 the same thing happene...

Official from Art at the WNYRHS - the Hamburg show is CANCELLED due to pending weather. The governor's already declared a state of emergency, commercial trucks are banned from the Thruway from I390 to the state line as of 4 PM, etc. and with three feet predicted it looks like the county or the venue...

I did well at Binghamton. A lot of rumors about the future of those shows; promoter Jeff Olin says he has the venue booked through 2030 and will continue to do them the same weekends in November and March until then. This weekend is a heavy snow forecast for Buffalo. Potential for them to cancel Ham...

The car that burned was a former DL&W chair car. Given the cold I'd guess a homeless person started a fire to keep warm and this is the result.

The car looks bad but it doesn't appear to be so damaged it can't be salvaged. Would have to see inside for structural issues to say more.

I forgot to mention that somehow, inexplicably it appears that in February the Greenberg show in Rochester is going to be directly opposite the WNYRHS Winter Train & Toy show in Hamburg. Greenberg is set for the 18th and 19th. Normally Greenberg would do this show the first weekend in March, but...

Syracuse show was pretty good, a little better than average, but there were tons and tons of things being dumped in some instances for silly prices - I dropped a lot of money on things being sold for 10 cents on the dollar, if even that. Sunday was actually busier as the weather was very nice Saturd...

Both units belong to Georges Creek Railway. The former South Buffalo unit is in Barton, MD. Pic of it on rypn.org.

That I know of Salt City Ventures is not a thing anymore.

My understanding is the two CNY NRHS cars were sold to someone in Indiana (?) but Conrail managed to derail them in Syracuse somewhere, they got parked on the now-gone lead into the Regional Market and were given to the Chapter. One had the front lower cab torn pretty good; somewhere I may have pict...

I didn't catch the attendance but Batavia seemed to be about normal. So busy early it was hard to get down the aisles, but once the Bills game was on pretty quiet. I took the time to update my current log book and the sales for me, though lower than fall '21, were about average. As usual a lot of th...

Seems like I always forget to check for that Norwich show, but when I first posted this they probably didn't have an update either. I did finally hear from RIT today via e-mail. The table price went up about 50% - heard that last year, last minute, the folks they rent from raised the price. This put...

Hemlock last year was something like 250 people. Be interesting to hear what this year was or how people did. I did three swap meets in the three weeks prior and of the three, one was okay, the other two were terrible sales-wise, despite about average crowds. RIT never sent out a dealer packet like ...

Even a clean toilet on a locomotive can be an adventure. I'll grant this was on jointed rail of a former mainline that had seen just enough maintenance to keep the trains running, for decades at that point, but the bottom line is you really needed three hands, or they needed to add handle bars like ...

The NYS&W bridge became redundant with CSX and NS splitting Conrail. That reduced it to a shortline handling it's own traffic. NS and CSX bought it out to placate Rich and prevent any objections to the Conrail takeover. CSX killed a sale of the Massena line to CN over STB wanting them to potenti...

I looked for a fall show for them and could not find anything when I made up the post. In fact there's still nothing on their website whatsoever. Too bad they picked the same date as Batavia, frankly I'd rather go to Amsterdam, but I'm already paid for Batavia. And the Batavia date was known at the ...
