Oh, I don't mean to overstate myself; they're still very much in the red; but the speed at which the gap is closing is promising. Of course, the danger of a ridership plateau on the Miami - WPB segment still lurks. Hopefully the Orlando segment will successful enough to counteract that if it occurs ...

According to Brightline's most recent ridership release , they carried 98,076 passengers in the month of December with a revenue of $2.2M. Ridership has increased 22% since November, and revenue has increased 47% since that time. Their ridership growth is still impressive, given that their Q4 figure...

I fail to see what's objectionable about this. These flip-boards are becoming increasingly hard to find with their replacement by cheaper screens. Evidently, people like the old board and think it has historical value, thus they've petitioned their Congressmen to prevent it's replacement with a scre...

Re: Texas Central HSR (Houston - DFW Dallas Fort Worth)

If I could stake out a middle ground here, I do believe the Texas Central project will be a government-subsidized venture; just not by our government. Following Japan's other overseas HSR ventures, there's always been a financing component. The Japanese seem to have come to the conclusion they can't...

Thanks for the loading gauge correction. Doesn't change the fact that you can't just move them somewhere else like the Brightline sets. They're compatible with Amtrak NEC voltage, but that's it. They wouldn't have the support for that equipment or space for the trainsets... Ironically, even handwav...

Well this is certainly an interesting discussion. I'm not well-equipped to debate the financial merits of this project, so I think I'll continue to just sit back and watch on that front. However, before I do that, I'd like to correct a misconception I noticed while reading Eolosen's post. If TCHSR f...

No wonder Southwest's stayed out of the way of this project in contrast to their role in killing the Texas TGV in the 80s: with the Wright Amendment gone, the Texas Triangle routes are more of an obligation than a profit center to them nowdays.

I believe October was the first time they released monthly (and not just quarterly) numbers since the first quarter of 2018. So while it appears they're going to be releasing them regularly now, there's a big "gap" in Q2 and Q3. You can find all their released documents under the "Con...

60,000 riders and ~1.2M* revenue for October 2018* *Extrapolated from press release saying ridership was up 34% since October You don't need to guess on the October figures; they were released on the 20th of November. The figures for October are 60,013 passengers and revenue of approximately $1.0 m...

WFAA of Dallas (aka Channel 8) is teasing an upcoming report (10 pm tonight CST) on the Bullet Train on their Facebook page. From what they've shown so far, it looks pretty well-done. They actually sent a reporter to Japan to check things out. One of the videos they posted is a shot of him in the ca...

The S-1 also contains complete garbage in this case. It lists "Washington, D.C.-New York-Boston", 225 miles, in the potential expansion pipeline. At least be careful enough to get the mileage between those three cities right! And is Brightline REALLY going to expand there? Really? Sounds ...

I don't know... Brightline/Virgin's business model relies on minimizing upfront costs through using existing infrastructure. When they bought XpressWest, they outright stated that they would abandon the plans for electrification across the corridor and would instead use the same (or similar) rolling...

Dallas to Houston, huh? There's no way they're not aware of Texas Central Railway 's efforts in that corridor. I wonder what Brightline/Virgin is planning to do about them. I don't think they'd be able to buy them out like they did with XpressWest, and their business models are completely different....

Every time I think I've got this project totally figured out, another surprise pops up.

50% ridership growth is really good, though. Really wondering what their Q3 figures will be.
