Rumor has it that Island Park Dragway in Great Meadows has shut down for good. The land that it sits on was formerly owned by the LHR, and was used as a turning wye for the steam era. In 1962, Ed Kowalik purchased the property and converted it into a drag strip. Many stories have been told of race c...

The North Church Road viaduct over the old L.H.R. at Franklin has recently been dismantled and removed to make way for a new bridge. The viaduct was a steel superstructure built between 1927-1928 by the McClintic-Marshall Company to eliminate 4 grade crossings near the N.J. Zinc Company. In recent y...

Walter, the only info I could find on Durland's switch was from the early 1900's, it was 233 feet long. It would make sense that they kept some length of siding there over the years, as there was a freight house there from 1940-1943. I couldn't find any evidence in my maps or files of a coal dump th...

Does anyone have a picture of conductor Samuel A. Crook? He worked in the late 1800's on the CNJ High Bridge Branch and I believe was from my home town of Rockaway. Our historical society has been trying to find a picture of him without success. There's talk he may be one of the 2 gentleman posing a...

Walter, the Hancock Icehouse was across from the Long Pond Farm building on Limestone Road. Anything Jersey related will be in my book. Maps, buildings, sidings. The Wisner Library has a copy you can view for free, since I think you live near Warwick? should answer the majority your current searches...

Hello All, I've been contacted by an eagle scout from Warwick who's gonna put some historical/imformative markers along the old Erie Line that intersected at Greycourt. He's interested in representing the L&HR on the marker as well. What he's looking for are hopefully colorized steam shots of th...
