NS has a 524 coal train loading up at Shire Oaks today. This is rumored to be the final for this train. I'll keep y'all posted of it's progress on the Tier and Ithaca Central.
NS W10 with PC unit #1073 trailing went eastbound thru CP Cass in Hornell @ 2:23 PM today.
NS W10 has the Penn Central locomotive as the 3rd unit, as per a Facebook report. The train recrewed at William St (in Sloan) about an hour ago, so I suspect #1073 will be heading east on the Tier this afternoon.
The Erie unit is trailing on NS 309, Owing to work at Gang Mills, #1068 did not get to CP Cass in Hornell until 6 PM.
The current episode of Tiers In The Night features the LV unit leading NS 310. The train was spotted in Fairview, PA shortly before 3 PM, so I'm guessing #8104 will head east from Buffalo to Binghamton under cover of darkness.
1943 was wartime. Perhaps after the war, damaged rail lines were wholesale replaced in Japan, and the old rail piled up then picked over by Japanese who needed work & shipped the straight pieces to the US for use in branch lines or yards. This is a total guess. I doubt that happened. Salvageabl...

NY-174 is closed between Camillus and Marcellus because the tunnel's falling apart at Martisco. Not going to collapse, but it needs a new liner. Also, does the railroad actually own the tunnel or did they do a deal where the county owns it and Finger Lakes is essentially permanent designated operat...
Getting back to ITHR, the crew goes on duty in Ithaca at 8 AM. The train usually arrives in Sayre around mid-day. I've heard rumors that a 3rd locomotive will be sent there soon, but nothing to substantiate them yet. WATCO has painted some of their locomotives (on other shortlines) in the colors of ...
nessman wrote:Wonder if NS will lease the entire Corning Secondary to the FGLK then?Foamers have been wanting the lease or sale of the line for years, but it's unlikely to happen. Ownership of the Corning Secondary gives NS greater control of their interchange with FGLK.
I've seen NS 316 (road freight) interchange with the B&P at Tifft before proceeding to Bison Yard. Ditto for NS 145/149 -that road freight will interchange with the B&P before heading west. Eliminating moves over CP Draw removes that efficiency. Another thing not discussed yet in building a ...
I'd be willing to bet the ITHR crew wished the story about not having the switch key at Sayre last Saturday was fake, too.
NS 60Q was headed to PanAm, as per the FB reports I've read. BTW, I noticed the rail stacked in Owego when I photographed #4005 (DC to AC unit) leading NS 310 there on Black Friday.
NS 60E is in greater Buffalo now and should be heading east on the Tier today. It is a unit sand train, destined for interchange with the Lehigh Railway in Sayre.
An eastbound welded rail train, NS 60Q, travelled the Tier last night.
