It would probably be better understood to use the term 1st Gen EMD when referring to the F7s and GP7/9s. That said...might get in trouble with that term regarding 216 as she does have a 567 block as well.

Pretty cool to see stone ballast along so much of the Conwy Branch. I can remember years ago being amazed at how well manicured the line was despite being cinder ballast.

And P42.......PLEASE....enough with the foaming pipe dream of steam running properly. 7470 is the operational loco. 501 is allegedly due to go in at some point. They have no qualified people to operate them. ... .... Get a Climax......this is not a 5mph ride with logs. Right it doesn't have to be a...

I still think CSRR needs a steam locomotive, but maybe they would be better off with something smaller, more like the Climax they have over at Clark's. It would never pull the train solo, but since they're diesel-pushing anyways, why bother having a heavy duty engine? Clark's was able to get the ent...

Is it still a good operation or one to be avoided? I definitely think it's worth going! I was up there to ride on the first run of the F7s to Sawyer's River back in May. The trains and ride were still fantastic. Train crew and snack attendants were great! Lots of work still going into keeping the r...

Wooden passenger equipment doesn't seem to be their specialty at Conway. They dropped the D&H combine and MEC Mt Surprise open coach (both now at DSRX) years ago with apparently repairable issues as they are both now running today. 1557 is wooden a Laconia car, former B&M open platform commu...

Ive noticed that, have they stopped using the Chocura? Also I hope the new car will be painted to match the notch consist. I cant stand how the Rhonda doesnt match They had different crews or catering companies for each dining car. From what I've read it seems they only have a Mountaineer crew at t...

Kind of surprised they haven't worked out an observation car yet for the Mountaineer. It would be great if they could find a matching stainless CB&Q tail car. Course...that might be the final nail in the Flying Yankee's hope for an operational restoration.

Brian S. recently gave an interview with a local tv station and announced that they were working on getting steam running soon which is great news. Even more exciting imho, he announced a 3rd dome car (of NP heritage) will be joining the fleet any time now. https://youtu.be/xdk5lYFdQSU

Why would they have any interest in a unit that has ZERO relevance to B&M/MEC history? 345 was still running for Conrail when CSRX expanded to the notch. Well, like 216 which also has little to do with CSRX, B&M, or MEC, the GP40-2 also has a turbo. And if anyone is ever going to pay tribut...

I think B&M 1732 can still be found in preservation with a later B&M blue scheme at RR museum of NE. (Perhaps needing new paint and quite surely awaiting major primer mover repair or swap) As for ST72 (aka 1741)... I believe the club is looking to do the original blue, black and white McGinn...

Even heating oil which is essentially diesel fuel, with perhaps a bit more sulfur, is also around $6/gallon...I don't think there's any deals to be had out there, in any blend the stuff is in short supply. Hopefully they topped off the F's earlier this year!

Looked like a really great day for railfans of CSRR! So glad to see the railroad willing to run a triple header even with fuel prices soaring! Also a great concession to run the train with non-dynamic equipped locos for the trip downward at the expense of the train's brake equipment! It will be fun ...

According to the facebook page, the steam engine was just inspected by the Feds. Looked like everyone was smiling in the photo. That said, I didnt see a tremendous amount of coal on site couple weeks ago, so I dont know how soon they are planning to roll.

Was up that way this past weekend, does anyone know what they're doing along the mountain division by the n/s road? Are you referring to the area around the siding? (Kearsarge St. siding, I think its called). They had photos on facebook recently showing them loading crushed stone into the ballast h...
