I think they're brought to maspeth yard on NYAR for their final send off and stripping down. A few sets have left so far.
Last night (6/14/2021)coming off Pelham CP 216 P&W had 111 empties heading back to cedar hill along with the CSOR SD40-2 spliced in the consist.
- Interesting to note that there was about 3-4 hoppers with the markings "Grand River Railway".
Those are carloads of sand for a golf course somewhere in Nassau county. Never know what might roll through the terminal!

ConstanceR46, You're a tough sale not buying into these hearsay rumors like with the M1's in Mexico on the LIRR thread. Nothing like that occurred with CP rail units going east of the derails at Fresh Pond. The NYA RS-301 used the CP power to drill the yard, that's about it. LIRR is not a big fan of...
1. Does this train still run into NYC? I've heard that it was one of three freight railroads from the mainland (along with CSX and P&W) and I haven't seen any sign of CP Rail going to Fresh Pond since 2011 or so. 2. I also remember hearing that a while ago (2004 or 05) a CP Rail SD40-2 went all...
Does anyone know if Metro-North is planning on doing the same? They could use a good case for a test pair of BEMU trains and their DM fleet is also approaching the end of their life. Full transparency, any major change they try to implement within the MTA is on the Metro North side. I'm surprised t...
I remember a power outage across the northeast back in the 2002-2007 era and seeing commuters walking along the tracks of the New Haven line in the Larchmont area. I think that the LIRR also lost power at that time, but trying too hard to remember just makes me feel old. Yes summer of 2003 LIRR had...
[quot What is particularly interesting is that the "study" is being funded directly from the Carrier's operating budget (860k), no grants. I'm surprised retired transit policy makers aren't writing screeds on social media and local papers about this malfeasance. Over the decades, there hav...
I think a few years back LIRR added a conductor to the CE( Change engine runs). If not mistaken the engineers ran these on solo missions to swap out engines. Let's say MP15's at Hicksville or a swap or grab a DM/DE in Port Jeff for years by themselves being dispatched with an engine.
That's a third switch in addition to the one right at MP 55 and is a bit west of there.
Makes a lot of sense. I'm surprised that didn't happen years ago. LIRR told NYA a while back they had plans to double track through there in the future so they couldn't build a freight siding there. You could easily build a mile long DEF east of the Medford station where the grade evens out along Lo...
