Second one was the huge derailment in Queens Interlocking from the Winter of '93.

Third is the Train vs. Crane in Huntington

Fourth is when the FL9 took a dip into the turntable in Morris Park.

max speed for diesel equipment at LIRR is 65, it would be same speed for Amtrak Diesel equipment. 80mph MAS, 65mph is Diesel Territory. It is a very reasonable prospect, contrary to what everyone here believes. Basically, the thru service from Albany to Montauk would essentially take over the slots...

If anything, they should just have those trains go to Jamaica and spin there instead of Valley Stream. They should also make St. Albans instead of Babylon trains. Also, I believe Zone 4 should be eliminated all together. It is abused by many and hard to police since it is such a short fare zone with...

Although still noticeable, the car has already shown the same wear and tear that the rest of the fleet has over the past decade. The wallpaper is peeling in many spots, the flooring is beatup, and the seats are covered in a fine layer of human grease. Meanwhile, Metro North somehow did get budgeted ...

There has been an upgrade to the switches in the yard recently. Referencing the 2004 map above, the following are now dual control switches: 41 13 51 45 57 56 Dual control would indicate from the HUT and LEAD? Dual-control switches are power operated switches that can also be operated by hand as ne...

What's funny is the MUs that they run in place of are now non-revenue equipment trains. In a perfect world those trains would be local cleanup trains to the DMs, which should really be limited stop express trains after Hicksville the same way Montauk/Speonk/Patchogue trains are express after Babylon...

Incorrect. RER in Paris, Overground in London, and Sydney Trains in Sydney all operate heavy rail systems with vastly higher ridership than the LIRR with one or two crew members per train. The key? Turnstiles or scanners on the platform -- hardly some impossible investment. And it isn't like conduc...

Wow, you sure sound like the president this railroad has been looking for! Please, enlighten me some more since obviously you have all the answers. The rest of the world does just fine with 3, 2 and even 1 person crews on commuter and even regional trains. Redeploy the excess to run more trains...[/...

Reduced crews? That would go over well.. DMUs? I don't think any major commuter railroad (at least in this region) has used any sort of DMU since the SPV-2000 almost three decades ago. It's one of those things that looks fantastic on paper to pencil pushers, but in reality is a nightmare for the peo...
