Re: All Things Sunset Limited (West)

Sounds to me like Amtrak can't sufficiently argue their case with the documentation already provided. That's not reason to demand a private company violate its record retention policy, especially if the outcomes and data points are available in the documentation provided in discovery. At my company...

Amtrak filing to STB claiming UP is destroying needed dispatch decision data. The filing says that UP destroys its dispatch playbacks — videos providing information about dispatching decisions — after 99 hours, and that UP claims it is under no obligation to preserve those playbacks. Amtrak says th...

Crew opens lounge car for groups during eclipse trip (Trains Mag) In short, they opened all cars but the lounge on the way down, but saw some opportunity, got the lounge cleaned up, and had groups of two or more sit in the lounge to stay together. Good PR move! More than 430 passengers rode at leas...

A fellow enthusiast near me took the Capital Limited from DC to Sandusky to see the eclipse totality. Overnight, with a 4am arrival, so timed nicely. A return trip would of been past midnight, so checking with him.

I have a photo of NYP bound Empire Service train that had started west of Albany. Let's just say the vestibule was caked in snow... inside. On one hand, beautiful, on the other... a bit slippery. The Lake Shore limited on Viewliner equipment had that issue when I was on it last year. So this isn't ...

Amtrak is negotiating continued access.
Abandonment filing.

I would think NS would buy the line at the very least... but I see Amtrak buying and maintaining it.

Doomed? Casino.org There is an interesting tidbit at the end: So why would the LVCVA purchase an old transportation system that they knew was doomed? Because the monorail had a noncompete clause that prohibited any other company from building another off-street transportation system for the Strip. ...

NBC News as well as other sources, report that the containers aboard the m/v Dali are now being transloaded to barges and returned to Port of Baltimore. Presumably they will be further loaded (by ILA members) aboard the CSX and NS "shuttles", as well as of course, highway vehicles, and mo...

CSX now has a dedicated container shuttle service running between NYC and BAL. Started up earlier this week. That'll help keep some of the drayage drivers working, not sure what the longshoreman and stevedores will do. Based on what the ACOE posted today as an overview of next steps, that shuttle w...

A bit of sheer coincidence in another rail chat I'm in. A message earlier that day warned not to eat the cheeseburgers from Amtrak that day...

...and the earthquake happened about three hours later.

What the... what was put in those cheeseburgers?!?

For $1000 a night, I expect hand crafted martinis and a 14 Oz Kansas City strip. Amtrak no longer passes that test. I looked at that statement... and said "no way, you gotta accommodate for actual travel because you're moving the entire time..." I was about to start breaking stuff down, b...

Not sure if this is a VL I or II: BusinessInsider.com I spent $1,000 for a 30-hour Amtrak ride in a private bedroom. Take a look inside the 45-square-foot space with its own bathroom. In October 2021, I spent 30 hours on an Amtrak train traveling from Miami to NYC. Since it was an overnight trip, I...

Felt nothing on this one. Felt something on the 5.8 magnitude Virginia earthquake back in 2011, and I was working at MTA Maryland's Baltimore HQ at the time. Getting home was *fun* on the rails.

Why can't Amtrak at least park a trailer for an office? Or is Mobile be an unstaffed station? Of course, a trailer would mean bathroom facilities might be needed?? Just use the one that was at BWI Airport for a while, hire a vendor for the news stand, and have porta-potties. But yeah, I kinda wonde...
