It has been enjoyable reading all of the enthusiasm generated from an appeal to identify an old photograph. In researching this photograph, I have learned so much about the streetcar lore of the New Jersey area. It is truly a shame that we as a society did not see it in the best interests to continu...

Western Maryland 4-6-0 Antique Photo

I recently acquired, at auction, an antique sepia photograph mounted on hardboard. It is a 4-6-0 (ten wheeler) sitting on a freight yard track with the crew positioned in front of it. I think most will agree with me the engineer is the man in the middle, probably the fireman to his right, brakeman a...

I dug through my old pictures and I found this second snapshot of the Baby Eagle. This one is the observation car. The 2 men standing in front of the car are my dad on the right and my grandfather on the left who worked all his life for the Missouri Pacific. This was taken in DeSoto, Missouri in 1953.

My grandfather worked for the Missouri Pacific and whenever a town/city that Missouri Pacific is promient in would have a parade or celebration the railroad would supply a miniature Baby Eagle train complete with diesel engine, cars, observation car etc. to run in the parade. The train was made by t...

I have no idea where the picture was taken. It took some detective work to figure out it was in Newark. I took it off the mounting board thinking that there might be some writing on the back, but no go. Nice picture though.

No, I have no idea. It took some rather detective work to identify it this far. I even took it apart a bit from the mounting board thinking that the back might have some writing on it, but no luck. It is fairly clear though, in focus etc.

Passenger rail travel has been dying for years but yet it isn't dead. The energy, scarcity of it, the cost of it, and the waste of it will feed, I think, new interest into rail travel. If you look at rail travel in the nuts and bolts aspect it makes total sense. One power source, one driver (or a sm...

In my travels in the Western part of the country possibly Colorado, I obtained an original photograph of a steam engine, flanked by the crew, probably the engineer, station agent, and the station. I barely remember the place where I purchased it. It was a 1930's, 1940's traditional one-story victori...

Bargains are still to had if you search for them. For $20.00 I purchased a rather large photograph of the Mt. Tamalpasaic scenic Railway That claimed to be "The Crookedest Railroad in The World". I was at a very small flea market with the usual garage sale junk and here was this framed pho...
