The MP36PH-3Cs in use by several other commuter railroads haven't had much in the way of issues. The MP40s are also good units. It's just the MP36PH-3S units that have issues, other than those the MPI units actually aren't that bad.
Metra 115 has been moved from BNSF to the MD pool once again.
Yesterday I saw this interesting move in Bensenville. http://www.flickr.com/photos/eje665/855 ... hotostream
Note that the 117 is facing the incorrect direction (eastbound)! Also note Metra 5 second out, followed by a random cab car. Anyone have any explanations to why this move happened?
It looks like UP is finally working to get rid of the hold short rule at Wheaton. They've installed new pedestrian gates throughout Wheaton, including at West Street, which is right by the station. I've been told all of these crossings will have the ATWS system put in, even the ones in downtown not ...
If you want shots of trains at Canal Street, do it soon, as once construction on this new building begins, the shot there will no longer be possible.
UP has put in cement blocks to hold up the new absolute signals for the Wheaton control point. The EBCS signal will be right next to the Cross Street grade crossing on the west side of downtown Wheaton, and the WBCS signal will be just east of Chase Street.
I shot the train at Gurnee on 12/8/12, despite some questionable antics by the Gurnee police, I managed to get some shots! http://www.flickr.com/photos/eje665/825 ... hotostream
There were a lot of people there that were saying this could be the last year of the train, hope they're wrong!
I saw that cab car fly through Westmont a few weeks ago on a inbound deadhead, sounded neat at speed!
I had heard all the interlocking equipment in the tower had been long gone and it was basically just the shell of the building that was still standing. I know the only reason it stood as long as it did after the fire was because UP was using it for M of W storage.
Someone told me a few weeks ago that 401 got into some mishap near the Metra/BNSF coach yards and the frame is bent on it, and that it's going to be out of commission for quite some time. Whether or not this is true is unknown, but that could explain why 401 has been MIA for as long as it has.
No, Metra has not sent anything out for rebuild yet, and probably won't until some point next year. I'm still willing to bet Metra may be forced to bring the F40Cs out again, them sending the F40PHM-2s out while have a big effect on the BNSF and Rock Island, and the project with the MP36s will have ...
I'm thinking with Metra sending the F40PHM-2s and 12 of the MP36s off for rebuild this year, I wouldn't be so quick to say the F40Cs are done with Metra service just yet. Metra may have to change their decision on the F40Cs once again.
I saw two 8400 series cab cars leading on the BNSF last week, one rebuilt one and one unrebuilt one.
I've never had problems shooting at Congress Park, Highlands or LaVergne on weekends.
