I note the passing, on Feb 15, 2012, of retired Southern Division engineer/conductor/ former yardmaster/trainmaster Robert Aschoff, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Bob had retired from the Southern Division ony a couple of years ago, only to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer not too long after...

Veteran NYS&W road engineer(and all around nice guy) Jim Ferrell retired this evening upon completion of his last run west from Little Ferry NJ to Binghamton NY on NYS&W tran SU-99. Jim, having achieved the combination of 30 years of service and 60 years of age, opted to "pull the pin&q...

It is with regret for us, but with great pleasure for the man involved, that I note tonight's SU-100(9/27) and Wednesday's SU-99 will be the retirement run of one of the NYS&W's veterans, Jim Ferrell. Jim started out with Conrail, but came to the NYS&W in the 1980's with the start up of the ...

The NYS&W has work trains out and about, getting stone, rip rap, and ballast from the Quarry in Pompton Lakes, NJ. Its going to take time for ALL railroads to get back on their feet. Unlike Agnes in 1972, there are carriers with money, and are in much better shape to restore whats been damaged, ...

SU 99, July 6, 2011....Like most with the time to spare, I too followed the train west. Had it not been for a hi-rail track patrol(for heat kinks etc...) ahead of the train, requirng numerous Form D, Line 2 extensions, the chase would have been more challenging. That said, if any one else got some i...

Add another one... CSX De Witt yard crew Y331 in Syracuse interchanged CEFX 3143 to the NYS&W overnight, making 3 SD40's on property.

Correction to my original post. the HLCX 1010 was delivered in error by CSX, and will be returned to them ASAP. The CEFX 3126 and 3108 are the only ones destined for service on the NYSW. This comes from a verifiable, reliable and internal source.....

3 Lease locomotives have been received in interchange from CSX at North Bergen NJ this week for service on the NYS&W. They are 2 SD40-3's and a GP38. the SD40-3's are CEFX 3108, solid grey with white reflective striping; CEFX 3126(in an SD45 carbody) in blue with white striping; and HLCX 101, a ...

The issue, as I understand it, is ice build up on crossings. Plus, yes, the M& NJ is that much deep in snow. Yesterday, the crew found themselves stuck in snow and ice in Greycourt NY with their B30-7. In any event, its something different....

Heads up, folks... The NYS&W had brought snow plow # 91 out of semi permanent storage(or so it seemed) and is plowing and breaking ice on the southern division mainline today. WS-1, with CSXT GP40-2 # 4429 shoving, departed Little Ferry just shy of 8 AM. Train went through PC about 8:30 AM. Plan...

The 4052 did indeed arrive on the SU-100 on Dec 30th. However, the 3016 was leading, and the 4052 was second out, followed by the 3618 and the 3010. Here's a couple of quick "grab" shots from this morning: http://rcbsd45.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2351552 http://rcbsd45.rrpi...
