RE: Freight cars Pictures I have seen of train consists on this branch c/a 1970's indicate a lot of SP Hydra Cushion 50' and some new 60' cars going to Seneca foods at Rushville. I personally observed an green LV 50' boxcar on spot at Gorham. Another trip to Rushville a white LV 40' box with tall LV...

Valuation map dated 1918 shows main track at MC Queens (Paper Mill Road) which is geographically oriented north to south. To the north of the highway and geographical west of the main track there was a double ended siding referred to as "Track 80" which was 1354' in length. Diverging off o...

One of my best memories of the old LV was a car caravan arranged by the Buffalo NRHS to the Sayre Shops January 17 1976. It was a wicked cold day but a LARGE number of folks went on this trip (Probably 4 dozen people at least). We toured the LV shops, I recall being just 16 with my first 35 mm came...

All I can offer is that my family moved to Sibleyville (Honeoye Falls) in early 1963. At some time me and my dad drove to Rush. He went into Bocks' grocery store and I of course stayed in the car, watching the tracks. Suddenly the crossing signals activated and a horn announced the rapid approach of...

And sometime 1963-1965 I saw a 40' PRR boxcar down near the pier. It was just south of Seager Marine. I presumed the location served as a public delivery or "team" track where freight could be transferred from car to truck.

Which was never built in that configuration.

Please refer to my previous posts

I have seen at least two variations of the L&LC on NYS maps of the time. Both are wrong.

Several accounts have stated that the LV had projected to extend from Naples to Wayland in order to facilitate a connection with the PS&N as the major goal. Those accounts also outline as to how Lehigh Valley interests owned large tracts of coal fields in the western PA territory served by the P...

It is the bridge abutment for the Atlanta Back Road when it used to cross over the railroad. The crossing in the foreground to the photographers left replaced the overhead I would say during the 1980s. The north abutment and the accompanying gradient for the highway would have been to the right in t...

I agree with the last poster as to names of dignitaries present and his observations as to equipment. I believe there were two shows at the Regional Market as well. The LV supplied a freshly painted bright red caboose along with a new white 50' plug door boxcar and I think also a new white covered h...

The Regional Market also hosted at least two open houses for the Rochester Railroad Association in the mid 60s'. All the carriers serving Rochester participated. Most supplied the newest and best appearing on the rails at that time, although some older albeit freshly repainted equipment appeared as ...

The Lakeville "mine" was actually a brine operation. The amazing thing today is the fact that the dikes for the desalinization beds are still in place, albeit covered in brush and trees. The dike is rectangular in construction. It also has a separation dike in the center which effectively ...

I know that we attempted to locate evidence of the prior car number while on the LAL. Any trace of car number or Lackawanna lettering had been obliterated. Presumably the car had been well prepped prior to any repainting by owners subsequent to the DL&W. "DL&W" did appear on truck ...

Farmers were encouraged to grow sugar beets in the Genesee Valley region and presumably elsewhere in NYS. A transload was built on the GNWR around Retsof. I recall that the GNWR was going to use their fleet of MacGregor "covered" hopper cars in this service as a result of arrival of the ne...

There was a private owner which bought the car from the Gettysburg and then upgraded the car to be AMTK compatible. To the best of my recollection this party was from Ohio. The car operated in several excursions, some of which I think were the NW 611 trips. Nice to know that this car continues on as...
