Quick question: What is the Chief’s MAS on the La Junta sub through western Kansas? 79 or 90? I was thinking about trying to pace it along US 50 for a bit.
Sounds like 90mph passenger will still be permitted in places where PTC replaced ATC (and track was up to standards). Was there a cab signal system in place on these subdivisions where 79+ was authorized? Will I-ETMS fulfill the requirements for 79+?
Another factor to keep in mind is the increased cost to maintain lines that would be upgraded to class 5 standards where the railroads feel that it is not warranted for their operations. They would probably insist that Amtrak come up with more money to keep these tracks to greater than 79 MPH stand...
The knowledgeable pros on this board are welcome to pick apart this argument, but it’s a thought I had. Passenger trains on most mainline freight railroads have been capped at 79mph due to a lack of cab signal or train stop/control system. With the widespread installation of PTC on mainline freight ...
I've asked this before, but I'm not around the area enough to see for myself. Are Lincoln Service trains hitting 90mph yet, or are we still at 79mph? I remember hearing that the 2019 construction season would allow for 90mph running on certain sections, and the 2020 season would expand to 110mph.
Howdy everyone, Recently did an overnight on 66, Philadelphia to Boston. Great trip, got lots of sleep, train was early (schedule seems to be padded a lot, but oh well). In Philadelphia, consist seemed standard for this Regional; ACS, baggage, and some Amfleets. However, when I woke up and stretched...
Slightly off-topic, but related to ticket sales. Did the One Day Pass valid for unlimited travel within two zones for a day ever get a trial run? I remember hearing about it last year around summer time, but it was 'at a later point this year' (2018).
A few questions about Cascades:
Do the NPCUs lead the northbound or the southbound trains?
Is one more likely to find a Charger or a Genesis powering a train?
It is known which trains operate with the new Talgo sets and which with the old?
Thanks!

Looks like canceling the Blackhawk to Rockford cost Rauner the election. #1 voter issue.
On Saturday, November 3rd, #311 operated with 2 heritage baggage cars and a Viewliner II diner, Indianapolis, attached to the back of the train. I assume this is for axle count purposes.
I'll be on the Lincoln Service early this November (St. Louis to Normal). Are we still at 79mph?
Anyone know the status of the 110 Joliet- St. Louis corridor? I just took a ride on the Lincolns between Joliet and Normal, and it was all 79. Not even 90 between Dwight and Pontiac. If I recall from two years ago, which was the last time I rode the Lincolns, Dwight to Pontiac was 110. Seems like a ...
Some of my thoughts: During the AM rush, 1208 and 1212, both Aurora-Route 59-Naperville expresses are awfully close to one another, at 5.45 and 5.54, respectively. Similarly, 1230 and 1232, also Aurora-Route 59-Naperville expresses, are 11 minutes apart, at 6.49 and 7.01. In each of these pairs, I w...
