Thanks! Good move to keep the PanAm forum going as it's probably one of the busier ones in RR.net. We like our trains in New England.
Outstanding summary- very educational. Thank you!
I concur with Cadeceus re: Fitchburg line going back to mid seventies. Double track westbound started in Waltham and ended somewhere between West Concord and South Acton. There was a third track between west of the station and Baker Bridge in Lincoln. I saw here (a while ago) that it was used as a p...
Make that Lawrence St. in Lowell.
Drove under that bridge this past weekend. Instead of black with a sign the bridge is now silver and has a small CSX logo. Hope some bar removed the spaghetti relics.
/I would have voted that the other bridge was rustier and more in need of paint.
Fitchburg Line: Doesn't the MBTA own Willows to Wachusett? I suspect they can keep the freight out of their way (also easier with hourly frequencies). I wrote the T a few months ago - not sure why the meetup is scheduled between Concord and West Concord when the two stops west of W. Concord (S. Acto...
I've driven 2A between Littleton and Ayer a few times in the past six weeks. There have been around six hoppers at Patriot Beverages. Regret not paying close enough attention to determine if they have changed out.
There are two rail bridges in Lowell that still have Prince placards - over Lawrence Rd heading northeast (yard to Lowell junction section) and over 3A/Gortham St heading south. I should probably look at the other sides. https://www.mapquest.com I always thought Prince Spaghetti was based in the Nor...
Ironic that to counter environmental protestors PAR needs to run extra trains (and burn extra diesel). I don't object to creating work for American jobs. New England isn't producing a whole lot of extra power and the US is shutting coal plants down. Can't find how many China builds for every one we ...
Fitchburg line was closed for two months ending May 3 for signal upgrades. Drove by the Concord station Tuesday around 4:30 PM. The commuter lot was almost empty. The 126/Walden lights on Route 2 were backed up to Crosby's Corner, and the rotary looked like it did on a typical day pre-Covid. Haven't...
I don't think the T is managing this well. Once it became evident that the system was running at such low capacity (and that we were not going to be out of this without a vaccine) there should have been cuts. I am fairly confident that they could have reduced service without affecting a large majori...
If building a mancave under Grand Central is wrong, I'm not sure I want to be right.
I've been enjoying the cameras in Chester, Westfield and West Springfield. The West Springfield crossing is particularly interesting since the gates are triggered frequently by yard operations. My favorite is when people see the gates go down and do a u-turn and it turns out to be the Lakeshore Limi...
Wouldn't want people to thing that there is actual manufacturing and commerce going on in central CT..
Saw a coal train today on the B&A webcam ( http://railroad.net/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=171147 ) - Springfield yard about 2:30 PM.
Hope to someday catch a train in North Lowell where the Stoney Brook intersects the Lowell to Nashua track. Doesn't seem like too many take the north fork.
