Re: Expanded DC/Baltimore Commuter Rail Proposals

On the MD-404 corridor the volume thins out east of Federalsburg Highway as much of that traffic is heading to the northern Delaware resorts. 404 was recently widened to 4 lanes from US50 to just past Denton. If you are heading that direction you probably have about 30 miles of 2-lane road. Improve...

Re: Expanded DC/Baltimore Commuter Rail Proposals

Actually the heavy traffic is year round on weekends Thursday through Sunday, More so in the summer and on Monday holiday weekends. I live over here and have been driving the roads on Delmarva daily for almost 20 years. Heavy is a relative concept, I guess. I have seen days when it was literally fa...

Re: Expanded DC/Baltimore Commuter Rail Proposals

It seems that the Eastern Shore of Maryland as well as the rest of the Delmarva region is forgotten when it comes time for making transportation links from east of the bay to the mainland. It is a bummer that there isn't any passenger rail or even daily frequent bus service from Baltimore and DC to...

Re: Silver Line Dulles WMATA Metrorail progress/pictures

"JackRussell" That's not how they opened phase 1. There was a train parked at Spring Hill that we boarded - it was nearly empty and we were able to board. We had to wait 10-15 minutes before it left - in advance of the "first train". If it was westbound then that explains why the train west out of ...

Re: Silver Line Dulles WMATA Metrorail progress/pictures

People will not be able to board trains inbound trains west of Wiehl-Reston until the official "first train" inbound passes through each station. Outbound passengers will not be able to ride past Wiehle-Reston until the "first train" inbound passes through. That's not how they opened phase 1. There...

Re: Metro - cause for 5000/6000 train separation

In this case, a review found that besides the use of the wrong bolt, one contributing factor was the incorrect use of power tools in place of hand tightening, which led to damage of the screw threads and a false torque reading. An initial Metro investigation completed within three days of the crash...

Re: UP 4141 George Bush 41 Funeral Train

I will bet that shortly after this final service to the President, this unit will be donated and retired at the Bush Library. UP has basically held it in storage since its unveiling in 2005, specifically for this final Presidential request. Would the library even want it? To properly display it, yo...

Re: Silver Line Dulles WMATA Metrorail progress/pictures

I am wondering if they will install any PIDS outside of the station. For example, near the tunnel entrances in the main terminal, or in the elevator lobby at the ground floor of the parking garage. The thought comes to mind that people would likely prefer to wait in the climate controlled area of th...

Re: Silver Line Dulles WMATA Metrorail progress/pictures

I just flew into Dulles Sunday (11/18) and there were signs posted in the airport and on shuttle busses announcing the re-opening of the tunnel. Not sure when that happened, but it is open now. I took a few pictures of the tunnel over the weekend, but have not yet gotten around to posting anything....

Re: DC Council votes to decriminalize fare evasion on Metro

If the threat of jail and a 300 dollar fine didn't curb turnstile jumping, this will not help the cause. However, if it was never enforced anyway, they might as well be realistic and perhaps people will just fork over the 50. What do they enforce these days? People eat on metro now and leave litter...

A WTOP follow up report on the precast made back in September mentioned the garage 1 pedestrian tunnel reopening sometime in October. Do you know any about that?
I just saw a tweet from Adam Tuss that the tunnel is now open again. He didn't post any pictures as of yet.
