Ironically enough... the wind tower project for that site has been cancelled. It'll remain in a "shovel ready" state for the foreseeable future. Three and a half years ago, local politicians and business boosters cheered news that the Port of Albany, about nine miles north of Coeymans, wou...
Curious what the recovery tab wound up being. I saw $160,000 being batted around somewhere... but not sure if that's just for the crane/rigging work just to get them on the flatbeds? There was also a cost for sidebooms to move them 200 feet to a temporary storage area on the site (one article said ...

I'll admit - I was the biggest critic of this. If it wasn't for the construction project and new haul road, this never would have happened. But it did. I'm humbled and impressed with the efforts to make it happen. East bound and down, loaded up and truckin' A-we gonna do what they say can't be done ...
Update from August... huh... they might actually do it after all! Hey Dan... Once most of the site is cleared, the smoke stack and boiler are supposed to come down at once via controlled demolition (explosives) later this year or next year. The turbine building will come down next by mechanical means. They're doing it in this order to protect the 24,000 > 345,000 ...
Any updates?
I'd imagine that Alco was on live rails and easy to move to a transload area for OTR transport. Once these things are on heavy haul equipment - the move should be fairly straightforward. The OTR move for 2 locomotives (including the Alco) cost $350,000. https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews/news-w...
DRM mentions a financial backer by name in the article. If I remember right from previous posts, he pledged $500k towards the move himself but I could be wrong in remembering that. He offered a loan (unspecified amount) that needs to be paid back. If the museum didn’t think they could be saved, why...
So far the museum has sunk $110,000 into this project to move these things 200 feet. They're looking at another $125,000 for the crane to disassemble what they can (*if* they can) and place onto heavy transport equipment. Then the costs to hire a heavy hauler with specialized over the road equipment...
They're out of the way, for now, yes - and that took a bite out of the money needed to move them to Danbury. But there will come a time where the property owners will give an ultimatum to remove them from the property - either in one piece, or many small pieces. The project will not wait for some ho...
