It’s aViewliner, Amtrak in my mind notoriously photoshops their images. Amtrak doesn’t have cars labeled coach, they’re labeled CoachClass.

The question of Amtrak copying Brightline and should Amtrak do it, one need look at ongoing projects in Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, and Chicago to realize Amtrak is already in fact copying it. Remember how you used to see daylight coming out of the Hudson River tubes before ent...

My feeling is Amtrak won’t return diners to the LSL until at least the spring timetable change. Probably Aprilish, which would give them something like 18-20 diners to play with in service without 8400. I don’t think they’ll add the diner right when they are cutting consists for the winter. Cheers, ...

There are documents out there from California High Speed Rail and Caltrain, both indicate they have an interest in purchasing used electric locomotives for test and backup locomotives (ie go haul dead train sets). These documents mention AEM-7 specifically sourced from Amtrak. I’ll see if I can’t fi...

Hartford has been released into the wild, Harrisburg is ready to go, but hasn't gone out yet. Likely to depart Hialeah in the next few days.

Per a reliable source who has posted here and other places, and has accurately predicted Viewliner departures from the factory previously...dining cars Hartford and Harrisburg will be leaving the factory to do some trick or treating (hint hint on the date) in Albany.

The Russian trains are dropping like flys. I've been going there regularly for seven years, the regularity and number of trains has dropped by at least half.

Hiawatha Service departed Chicago today, SC-44 only locomotive and in the lead (there was an NPCU, it wasn't in push mode). CA should be in service in next five to ten days.

They should have at least installed the SI bathroom modules, so much better than the ones in the SIIs. For me that would be enough.

The Europeans have occasionally used stainless steel, but lets also remember the longest service life of European equipment is probably about thirty years then its off to become razor blades. On the other hand, its not unusual to milk forty to fifty years out of equipment. I don't think railcars bui...

There are still North American builders, they just don't build passenger cars. Having said that, if I am not mistaken, Bombardier wants out of the rail business in the worst possible way to focus on jet skis or something like that. Also lets not forget what is probably their finest piece of Bombardi...

Everyone seems to think these two will be crash tested, but I have heard that Pueblo was looking for electrics, mainly because they don't have any and they need them from time to time for testing catenary and electrical delivery related technology, as well as for high speed testing.
