I don't know about the MU storage yard, but looking at the aerial shots brings back memories. This spur was last serviced for freight under Conrail for Straus Paper Company, who I believe still has a warehouse there. The last I saw service there was in '94 and I think they got boxcars and centerbeam...

I know some of the drama that's unfolded with the CQPA over the past 5 years. But I'm more interested in the roughly 20 former D&H boxcars that they had leased several years back. These are the all-white cars that once boasted "I Love NY" on the upper right, and are naturally of interest to D&H and ...

any new sightings of these cars?? i heard from a fellow railfan in OH saying that there was some new reporting mark seen on these cars and a few are still running... i only saw a few of the CQPA ones in 2002, but they were out there still in use. not only were they painted over a few times, they eve...

Re: Do these items still ship by rail

What about frozen products? Remember the "solid cold" refidge box cars? There is still a very heavy, profitable reefer service run by both UP and BNSF, traditionally coast to coast. Solid Cold cars (as well as UPFE reefers) have largely been retooled into white cars marked ARMN mostly for UP and BN...

from what i remember about this area, Budweiser discontinued use of track at least 10 years ago. I remember running into someone who worked there saying that theft from the beer cars there by the employees was excessive. Piantedosi is another lost cause. But the cold storage place (Crystal Cold) adj...

the creepy part about the Medford Branch is that past the new development (where all the backyards are over the old ROW) you can actually see tracks in places in people's backyards, covered up with decades of grass.. the lines are intact in some spots, insane as that sounds. you can clearly id the R...

CP into Kenwood Yard, Albany

i'm planning a trip up to Albany and into Vermont, heading up Route 4. i think it's the old D&H line that's now CP that follows that road. are there any customers or good places to shoot pictures alont this stretch up to Whitehall? i think this line provides a lot of the service to the Kenwood Yard ...

i wish i had the time these days to head to Mam'k to spot such things. there hasn't been a boxcar customer in a long time on this strech of the line, which is very interesting if someone new is getting service. makes me miss the 80s... i think that the lumber customer in darien is served out of New ...

it just gets weirder

to make things even stranger, and harder to believe, several Subaru dealers (including an Albany area one) told me that the cars are shipped, by autorack of course, to RHODE ISLAND. they tried to convince me that the cars pass through Selkirk and all New England/New York distribution is trucked out ...

Subaru in Lafayette?

I'm trying to find out if NS services the SIA (Subaru) plant in Lafayette. They appear to be an active rail customer, at least shipping out finished autos.

Does anyone have any info on this? I'm working on a research project on Subaru. Thanks.

Does CSX ship Subaru in the Northeast?

i'm trying to find out if Subaru ships by rail out of their facility in Indiana. the factory has rail service. as for the cars, they're around here and there in NY, but going up to Mass, you see them EVERYWHERE. it would seem that for New England, they sell enough to certainly ship them in. as for n...

amazing work guys!! many years ago i recall covered hoppers for Marval being left on the end of the spur by the ROW for a few days, but that's the closest i've ever come to seeing this spot switched. after Strauss in Port Chester stopped getting service about 10 years back, i think this is one of th...

The standard art philosophy is that if it can cause such a strong reaction from people, then it has tremendous worth as art. There's all kinds of "art" that people just look at and, think, "oh yeah, that's nice, whatever..", but the argument could then be, "that's just not effective anymore, that ar...

if you look really really carefully from the prison point bridge, there are sometimes some open hoppers along the edge of where the yard was, on the edge of the Boston Engine Terminal. the last time i was in the area, that's all i saw. there certainly isn't much track left to work with...
