Re: Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

I don't care what a simulator says, its put together by rookies , no MN, CSX, Amtrak locomotive has a lap function. you are comparing make belief with a real railroad , grow up. You have completely misinterpreted my thinking on this. You have decided to take offense when absolutely none was intende...

Re: Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

evenCSX has not had lap in 25 years . I have driven three locos and the M7 cab car in the sim on two separate routes; The Metro North Hudson Line and the NJT Coast Line. On the CSX GenSet NRE 3GS-21B the brake positions shown on the handle (and in the HUD) are: Release Graduated Self-Lap Limited (H...

Re: Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

you mentioned a lap function on brake, just for information there has not been a lap function on any passenger equipment since about 1993 when last FL-9's with 24Rl brake were retired. I guess I'm getting the Metro North trains confused with the CSX locos. I actually like the single control in the ...

Re: Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

I just realized that I have been confusing speed changes. There are yellow markers on the sim's 'Driver Information' display (in the HUD, which of course, exists only in the sim) which indicate the upcoming speed limits. But these are not the same as what is indicated by the cab signals. It appears ...

Re: Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

in real life ATC does force engineer to reduce speed, once you get a downgrade you have 6 seconds to apply the brake and and acknowledge the ATC downgrade . releasing brake before speed is down to right level results in penalty application of brake. OK. That makes sense. I guess when I ran the sim,...

How realistic is TS2019?

Hi; I am running the newly released Hudson Line on Dovetail's TS2019. I have posted in the MTA Metro North forum on the subject, but think it's time to take the conversation over here to further discuss the game itself. Here is the link to my thread in the other forum: http://www.railroad.net/forums...

Re: Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

the alertor is even worse than the deadman, listening to it and reacting to it 400 times a day makes Engineer immune to it. like a habitual sleeper and the snooze alarm , they will just hit it when asleep and not even know it. I ran the sim again. It is obviously not coded for PTC, which is what I ...

Re: Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

correct, but trains have been known to pass a red signal. A Google search led me to the Anding MS 2005 wreck. I read the pertinent parts of the NTSB report. Human error of course. The report stated that a positive train control could have prevented the crash. But here is a very unlikely scenario: A...

Re: Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

Thanks for the explanation.
I would think that the CTC 'machine' would make it impossible to route two trains in such a way that a head-on collision could occur.

Re: Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

probably programmed wrong 45 would be speed if changing tracks in cp12, for straight moves it goes mp 11.5 to 18.5(yonkers curve) is 70 cp10 to mp 11.5 is 30 mph Thanks. Yes, it does look like there are errors in the sim. Another interesting thing I have learned by playing the sim is about signalin...

Speed limits at Spuyten Duyvil

Hi; I am running the Dovetail TS2019 Hudson Line sim, and am curious to know how accurate the sim is to real life. In the sim, the speed limit just south of CP12 goes down from 75 to 45, then returns to 75 for a short distance before lowering to 30 for the SD curve. It makes no sense whatsoever to m...

Sleepy Hollow Season 3

Hi; I have been watching the TV series Sleepy Hollow on DVD, and am now at season 3. I have read that filming for the series moved from New York to Georgia (near Atlanta) for season 3. In episode 2, there is a train station that bears signage for Tarrytown, but knowing that such a station does not e...

Re: Which Boston station for Thruway bus?

Update: Uh, I just checked CheapOair.com and found a United flight from Newark Liberty to Bangor for $166!! Flight time is about 1-1/2 hours. I think it's a no-brainer. As much as I like trains, does it make sense to spend 10 or 12 hours in travel when I can get there in 1-1/2 hours? Edit: That fare...

Re: Which Boston station for Thruway bus?

The bus terminal in Boston is above South Station. You will find it's an easier transfer going Northeast Regional (say NY-Boston) -> Concord Thruways to Bangor than Northeast Regional -> Amtrak Downeaster -> Concord Thruways to Bangor. The only downside of doing the bus right out of Boston is the b...

Which Boston station for Thruway bus?

Hi; I am beginning to plan a trip from NYP to Bangor Maine. It appears by looking at schedules that transferring to an Amtrak Thruway bus at Boston is the fastest route. 10 hrs compared to 12 if I take Downeaster to Portland, then a bus to Bangor. I am trying to figure out which Boston station (Back...
