Yes, for trains that originated out of Rigby, or Waterville, access to the Calais Branch required changing ends. When trains were made up in Bangor Yard, they were made up in reverse, so they had to back east out of the yard past Calais Jct., then proceed east on the Calais Branch. There was no othe...

There are no plans at this time for us, or the State to purchase the remaining corridor.

What Richard spoke of is old news. There will be no more rail taken up on the state owned portion. It is still the plan to rebuild to Green Lake.

Good evening, The cut off siding was for a propane dealer. Petroline I think the name was. I do not know when it was put in. When the trail extension was built, it was decided to pull the switch. It could be put back if the need for it arises. We did not meet our goal of getting across the bridge be...

Good evening, Now that MDOT has completed the Route 179 intersection, they are now turning their attention on the Union River Bridge. Engineers are looking at it and are in the process of developing a scope of work. When that is completed, it will likely go out to bid. Where it is getting late in th...

Regarding the use of Alco S-1's and 3's. By this point in time most of the 44 tonners were used up, or sold off by then. Also the writing was on the wall regarding the Eastport branch.

Simon,
From what I have seen, our ties are all spaced about the same, about 21 inches apart. On crossings we have rebuilt we narrowed them up to 18 inch spacing.

Simon, These standards are what the Calais Branch is built to, and I believe that is true for the entire MEC. We have a book of these standards for maintaining the Downeast Scenic. In reference to an earlier posting, the rail from Washington Junction to Brewer is all 85 pound rail with the exception...

Hi,
The "pink" engine we have is a Davenport that came from Minnesota. It has since been repainted red.

Yes, we have been considering Christmas trains. However, in order for us to be able to do this we must have: Heat for the coaches. A way to keep the locomotives warm. An indoor ticket office. A permanent water supply. A plan for how the trains will be operated. A way to keep the tracks, station plat...

Good afternoon, We do plan to expand west at some point, however we are waiting on DOT to rebuild the intersection at the glass shop where route 179 intersects 1A. We expect this to begin sometime next year. We also have to do repair work on the Union River Bridge. We expect to begin that project so...

The immediate plans for 470's operation is to be on the Downeast Scenic, however that is several years down the road. As far as mainline operations, we'll have to wait and see. Our main focus right now is just to move it out of Waterville.

We are in the final stages of completing the move plan. If the weather holds and the ground doesn't get soft, the tender will come late fall, provided it fits with the mover's schedule. The locomotive will likely be moved next summer.

Good afternoon, Every so often we will get contacted about railcars like this. While we would like to save them, the fact is that even if they were to give them to us, it would cost a considerable amount of money just to move them. This is what makes acquiring equipment like this prohibitive for sma...

Good afternoon, One of the wye crossings in Burnham have indeed been taken out. I can't remember exactly, but it has been about 3 years ago that happened. For those that don't know, Maine DOT owns the track and right of way from Burnham to Waldo. It was decided that the crossings needed to be rebuil...
