Looks like the 1751 is finally back in service with new paint. Interesting thay they ditched the yellow for orange, but I'm not complaining as it looks sharp! I'm hoping these colors will follow to the MP15's in the near future.... https://www.railpictures.net/photo/855457/ Reminds me of the RGW's ...

I caught the Fiber train going through Waltham last summer. When it’s laying the fiber it crawls along extremely slowly. (Actually I don’t think it lays fiber at all, I think it lays tubes the fiber will later be pulled through.). It uses basically a vertical knife blade to cut a slit 3 or 4 feet de...

Looks like the bars are electric heating elements (note the wiring on the far side flipped up one). They must have a beefy generator onboard.

Been pretty quiet on this thread lately. Is the G&U still humming along as usual?

Keeping air in the cars means the departing crews do not need to perform a Class I (Initial Terminal) brake test ie very time consuming if the cars have been off air for more than 24 hours. In 2015 the law changed, it used to be only 4 hours. If there is an air slip (a copy of the previous Class I ...

The air will keep the reservoirs on all the cars up to pressure, so when they go to pick up the cars they don’t need to wait to pump up the air. I think if it’s within a certain time period of when they were set out it may also mean they don’t need to do a full brake test? In which case they’d just ...

Thanks.
The new ties should help with #4 :-)

Seems like rail ought to be cheaper than truck for a bulk commodity like propane, and it seems like CSX is serious about making service reliable.
What does “Excepted” track mean?

And just about 2 car lengths (automobile type car lengths) between the tracks and an intersection with a street that parallels the tracks. Most of the drivers are probably more concerned with which of the lanes they’re supposed to be in to get where they want to go.

The marks that end in X are for things that aren’t common carrier railroads. I would assume that PAS is a common carrier, B&E is just the operator.
BERX is a pretty good mark given their name, although if they were a common carrier BERK (which appears to be available) would have been even better.

I remember being very optimistic back when PAS was first announced, and being impressed when the NS power started showing up at Ayer and things seemed to get more serious. NS was going to be the solution. Now it kind of seems like they’re the problem. It does seem to me that even if NS & CSX are...

Nor should it. The cost needs to be high enough both monetarily and in terms of publicity so that they (and any other RR’s who don’t want to end up in the same boat) get serious and stay serious about making sure it doesn’t happen again.

I don’t post much, but I do appreciate your posts ut-1 - it’s an interesting chunk of railroad I probably wouldn’t have known about were it not for your videos/posts, and it’s nice to get updates.
That’s quite a difference in spike size. I wonder what size rail was used originally.

There’s a small nicely fixed up little brick building next to the roundhouse in Batavia, between the roundhouse and the track. Does anyone know what the history of that structure is and what the DL&W currently uses it for?
