BO-1 serviced Rousselot today. Whilst in Peabody they left a car for Univar on the runaround off Bridge Street.

CSX has rights into the Coke Works at Everett (on the south side just east of the casino) - they serve it 5 days a week currently. Any further and it's Pan Am with a borrowed CSX locomotive, CSX crews aren't qualified further.

I guess it was bound to happen, but still disappointing...the crossing at first ave in the Peabody industrial park has been lifted.

The road was getting pretty chewed up. When was the last time a train crossed that road, early 2000's?

Late-90's. City of Peabody has made passing attempts at trying to market the rail access there, to no avail. Chances are about zero they'll ever succeed, but PAR's willing to sit on its hands and give the city courtesy to market whatever it wants to market now that Rousselot's securely growing. It's unlikely the OOS trackage is ever going to get chopped in an abandonment because of that. Besides, with Rousselot's growth and how craptastically PAR cans stuff all over the system it's only a matter of time before there's a need to brush-cut and hand-patch any washouts all the way to the foot of Summit St. grade crossing so they have extra space to shove cars around. The current 900+ feet of tail storage they keep operable past Allens Ln. isn't nearly enough for how much they trip over themselves at North St. and Castle Hill failing to move Rousselot cars fast enough. That ends up being a third of the distance to the end of the line. The rest from Summit to the industrial park they collect rent from the Peabody Municipal Light power lines on the ROW, and have no crossing protection hooked up to the electric grid giving them any maint costs. So leaving it as-is forever without a change in status still ends up earning Billerica a microscopic...but nonzero...sum of money.

BO-1 went to Peabody this afternoon with three bones.

Did anyone catch the Dash 8 5956 that was on Allen's Ln last week. I got a picture of it thought it would be a big deal but no one mentioned anything about it.

BO-1 scrounged up 6 loads of HCl and an empty as a stretcher in Somerville this morning, then they made a run for Peabody.

F-Line's comments got me thinking about the utility/electric lines on the right of way beyond the summit street crossing. I had noticed that there is a utility pole at Summit Street crossing that was placed too close to the track to allow clearance. Worse, today I looked further up from the crossing and there are utility poles WITHIN the right of way, with multiple wires on the poles. With that view I cannot imagine any possibility of traffic ever getting back on that line.

How can they even legally put utility poles in the middle of a ROW that is not abandoned.

im sure pan am is well aware of the power lines, and they probably don't care where they are because if service is ever restored the power company will have to move them

Because the lease/easement agreement is probably more cost beneficial to the RR than abandoning.

BO-1 must have worked Peabody today. At noon there were 11 empty bones and three empty acids on the runaround track off Bridge Street.

Cars were still there this evening rush with no engine anywhere to either side. Maybe they ditched the empties there yesterday due to lack of space in Boston?
