Huh? Weren't the FM's loooong gone by the time a GP38 ventured anywhere near the property?

Railfan 365 said:Thanks for the feedback, and the reminder of where most of the GP's went. I looked up the spec's on the two locootive models in question and saw that the MP15 actually produces more TE than the GP38 at start up, and is rated at about 7/8 of the GP's continuous TE even though it only generates 3/4 the hp

I might add both The EMD MP-15 or 1500's and the GP-38 weigh in about the same, 248,000lbs and 250,000 lbs. Tractive effort during start up is about the same, with the MP-15 at 62,000 LBF and the GP-38 at 61,000 LBF. Continuous Tractive effort measures MP-15 at 48,000 LBF and GP-38 with a slight edge at 54,000 LBF.

Moderator: This question may need a new thread started.

Which locomotive gave better startup acceleration, the Alco C420 or the GP 38? This would be with the same amount of passenger cars.

Not being an Engineer, I am not an authority. It did seem to me the C420's were quicker out of the stations. Gotta ask some Engineers who operated them on passenger trains their opinion.
Totally off topic, but the Metro north engines they used on the c-3's had the fastest acceleration of anything I ever worked on the LIRR.

Doc, were those the FL9s?
