I take it you don't follow the forum very much! Otto is well aware one what's going on.

Can't wait... I hope that I will be home, cuz I will bolt out my door, and to one of my spots, to get videos of both of them, when they come...

I agree that one of the ex B&M GP9s would have been a better
choice than the GP35 216. The 52 and the 77 were both working
at East Deerfield until a couple of weeks ago, so they were
serviceable. They could have painted it in either the original
blue and black scheme or the later "blue dip" scheme. Electrical
issues and the turbo on the 216 do have to be a concern. The
GP9s were built with dynamic brakes, but who knows what it
would take to get them operational again.

Otto, it looks as if the operations manager for the Conway Scenic has confirmed in a published report that they will be getting two units from Pan Am Railways.

See for yourself: http://www.conwayscenic.com/index.cfm?f ... heelreport
Wow, you mean the one I quoted earlier in this post? Thanks! :-) Before Russ published his April report, all we had was a bunch of unverifiable information being thrown about. If you can't offer bona fides, then it makes it really hard to discern "fact" from "rumor."

Don't make me reopen the Fantasy thread again. Enough with the Pan Am rumor.

A few notes about 252:
I'm really glad they've chosen the original MEC paint scheme: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 774&nseq=0
I'm excited to see what they plan to do with the nose rectangle....Like 573, I'm sure it will be awesome while keeping the heritage alive!

Another point...
Check out the horn on 252 now: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 693&nseq=2
Yikes, one bell in each direction. Hopefully that part stays at Waterville!

In MEC harvest PH2 we see her with another horn type! http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 623&nseq=5
Verses the harvest PH1 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 774&nseq=0
I kinda like it with the cones on 260 :-)

It'll be interesting to see what they choose.

The horn in the PH2 scheme is a K5la. CSRR owns serveral of them. That type of horn gets my vote. I think that is what 252 was delivered with but i am not sure. Does anyone know, and i appologise if this has already been said somewhere, which phase of the MEC paint 252/216 will be painted in?
  by MEC407

The MEC GP38s were originally delivered with Leslie S3L horns. They didn't get Nathan K5LAs until later, starting in the late '70s.

The horn currently installed on the 252 is a Leslie RS2M (most commonly found on switchers and subway cars), and I do hope they replace it with at least a 3-chime if not a 5-chime. An RS5T would sound AMAZING up there in the mountains.

Thanks for the info. I've always wondered about that!

I believe it will be Phase I.

The newsletter says it will be painted in its "as delivered" paint scheme.

While I'm glad to see these engines be restored to their "as delivered" MEC Harvest Gold paint, they are going to look goofy hauling the Notch Train passenger set instead of freight cars. That is all.

Don't worry, the same source that predicted that CSRX would be getting to PanAm units almost 2 months ago,( that by the way came to pass ) is sticking by it's story that CSRX will be waving bye-bye to the FP9s. That source is a site calling itself new england railfan Fantasy Locomotive thread or not that crew from New England Railfan called it on the money before the information was released by CSRX in their wheel report. Just my thoughts.

Otto,
The BM 252 (EX MEC 252) is the only one that will be returned to the as delivered paint with the execption that the Green will be a diferent shade being the same that CSRR uses already. The ST 216 is not original to the area or MEC it is EX NS 1328 so It will not be returned to the as delivered paint, But it will painted as if it was delivered to MEC.
