Is anyone ever going to design a locomotive engine that can use antifreeze? Think of all the fuel that would be saved if locomotives didn't have to idle to keep from freezing.

nope, but the trains can be plugged in on 480 volt standby power , and cooling fluids kept warm.

Dutch, can you explain why this is not possible? Are the systems that different (other than much bigger) than combustion engines that utilize antifreeze?

On large engines the seals will start leaking and antifreeze will get into oil eating up the crank case bearings.
also the EPA does not want 240 gallons of antifreeze to spill every time a locomotive develops a leak.

1061
Whyd the 1061 need to be tested?
Insurance package, as well as simulating weight for the consist (if the f40 was isolated).

This thread is getting WAY off-topic...

Has there been any additional testing of 2001 since Sunday AM, and if not, is there a tentative time period of when the next round of testing will occur?

I don't think we've drifted far off topic... The 1061 was cut today so the 2001 may be testing solo on the next round. The test train should operate the next 3 days (tomorrow up in the air with the storm). The normal trend until clearance testing starts seems to be up the NH route to test between Wilmington and Shop late morning - early evening before PM rush.

Right now it's 2001-9xx-9xx-1808-1800

Yesterday I believe the 1808 was in the lead and I am not sure of the other Rotem car that was in the consist.
